Miami singer Pitbull or Lara Trump for Senator; both floated as DeSantis prepares to fill Rubio’s seat

Anticipation for a vacant Senate seat set many abuzz with replacement suggestions including a GOP firebrand and a Grammy Award-winning rapper.

President-elect Donald Trump’s second administration is slowly taking shape a little more than a week after his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris as a litany of staffing nominations have been dropped. While the once and future commander-in-chief has yet to officially announce his selection for Secretary of State, the clamoring on who should succeed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) is underway with public endorsements for Lara Trump and Pitbull.

Should the president move forward with nominating the third-term senator, the responsibility to fill the vacancy was left up to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), leaving many on Capitol Hill calling for the statesman to select the current co-chair of the Republican National Committee and the president’s daughter-in-law for the position.

A leading voice in the push for Trump was Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) who, on her personal X account posted, “@LaraLeaTrump needs to be the nominated replacement by [DeSantis] for Rubio,” tagging a parody account of the governor. “She will keep the seat and avoid a messy primary for FLORIDA. Well spoken. Kicked butt on election integrity. Etc.”

Likewise, Alabama Sen. Katie Britt (R) told Axios, “She just got off a historic win.”

“She understands the America First agenda. For me, I think she would be a tremendous pick, a voice for hard-working families and another mom of school-aged kids that understands what we’re up against, and that’s to fight to protect the American dream,” she went on.

Similarly speaking to Trump’s blend of qualifications in her personal and professional life, Maye Musk, model and mother to the world’s richest man, posted, “The next senator for Florida should be @LaraLeaTrump The Senate is an old man’s club. We desperately need a smart, young, outspoken woman who will reveal their secrets. Also, I’m not a political expert.”

The opinion prompted her son, the newly-nominated head of the Department of Government Efficiency, Elon Musk, to react, “Lara Trump is genuinely great.”

Other comments from would-be peers had Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville telling the Daily Mail, “I think she’d be good if she wants to get into it,” as Montana Sen.-elect Tim Sheehy (R) expressed, “I don’t know anything about Florida politics. I’m from Montana. But it sounds like a good idea to me. We’ll see what happens.”

In addition to encouraging DeSantis to select Trump for the position, some were only “half joking” when they suggested Miami native Armando Christian Pérez, the rapper and producer known as Pitbull and “Mr. Worldwide” to take the spot.

Amid the suggestions, Axios reported that the governor was likely considering appointing Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody or his chief of staff James Uthmeier as possibilities.

Thus far, the governor had only publicly reacted to the nomination of Tom Homan as border czar, remarking it “should be in the dictionary as a textbook example of an ‘upgrade,'” while making his own suggestion that Florida Surgeon General Joe Ladapo be nominated to lead the Department of Health and Human Services under Trump.
