Michigan AG responds to concerned parents, says there should be a ‘drag queen for every school!’

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel tossed morality out the window, proclaiming that drag queens should be in “every school,” that they “are fun,” and “make everything better.”

Nessel was taking aim at outraged conservatives and parents who don’t want drag queens hosting educational events for young children. She made her comments on Wednesday at an event hosted by the Michigan Department of Civil Rights in Lansing, railing against “fake issues” such as drag queens reading to students and hosting dancing events at schools and libraries.

Nessel is the first openly gay person elected to statewide office in Michigan. She also allegedly came to infamy for passing out drunk in the stands after two Bloody Marys at the 2021 Michigan-Michigan State football game, according to the Washington Free Beacon.

“You know what is not a problem for kids who are seeking a good education? Drag queens,” Nessel declared during her speech at the civil rights conference, according to The Detroit News.

“Drag queens are entertainment. And you know what? I’ll say that was totally not poll-tested, I’d say this, ‘A drag queen for every school! That is what would be fine for a kid,'” she added laughing.

The attorney general went on to assert that drag queens help children when they are having “emotional issues.”

“I am so tired of having prominent members of our state government create wedge issues that don’t help, that don’t heal us but divide us. And that’s all they do,” Nessel claimed. She went on to state that drag queens are “not a problem for kids who are seeking a good education.”

“We need to take all communities in our state and lift them up and not tear them down,” she said.

Nessel’s opinion on drag queens and young children drew the wrath of Republicans who slammed the attorney general for her stance.

“‘A drag queen for every school’ is a great summation of today’s Democrat Party platform,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted.

Her ill-timed comments came one day after the Republican-led Michigan Senate refused to take up a resolution proclaiming June as Pride Month without a disclaimer noting that “not every citizen in Michigan agrees with the lifestyle,” according to Bridge Michigan.

The chief of staff of the Michigan Republican Party, Paul Cordes, bluntly called Nessel’s radical endorsement of drag queens “unbelievable.”

“This is not normal. She shouldn’t be allowed to joke this away. Dana Nessel is unfit for office, especially Attorney General,” he asserted on Twitter.

Nessel is seeking a second term this November during midterm elections and this may tank her chances of reelection. Her Republican challenger, Kalamazoo lawyer Matthew DePerno, said the comments show that she is unfit for office.

“Students in the third grade are behind on their reading, our test scores are some of the worst in the country thanks to these disastrous COVID lockdowns, and she calls for drag shows for Kindergarteners,” DePerno noted.

Tudor Dixon, a Republican candidate running for governor in Michigan who has called for criminal penalties against adults involving children in drag shows, said in a statement on Wednesday that “sexualized performers” shouldn’t be tolerated in any educational setting.

“The contrast for voters this election is clear: A return to normalcy where parents’ rights are respected, proficiency in reading, writing, and math are emphasized, and race and sex activism are abolished from our early classrooms, or in Michigan where activists run wild pushing their personal political agendas on our children,” Dixon stated.
