Former Vice President Mike Pence is set to join an increasingly crowded field of Republican hopefuls who will seek to make their case to the American people that they would be best suited to send the Biden regime to the trashcan of history.
Pence plans to officially kick off his campaign to return to the White House on June 7, his birthday, with a video and a speech in Des Moines, Iowa, the key midwestern battleground state, NBC News reported, citing a “person familiar with his launch schedule.”
The Hawkeye State is a place where a candidate can gain early momentum for the primaries which the ex-veep will likely need going up against his one-time boss, former President Donald J. Trump who is currently the frontrunner as well as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a rising GOP star who declared his candidacy last week.
A devoutly religious man, Pence waded into the culture war on Wednesday by putting the wood to the Los Angeles Dodgers who have been harshly criticized for their decision to honor a group of “queer and trans nuns” whose outrageous antics can only be described as blasphemous, with the team apologizing to The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence after they had initially acknowledged their mistake by disinviting them only to reverse course after catching hell from LBGTQ+ activists.
“Having been raised in a Catholic family, the Dodgers decision to invite the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a hateful group that blatantly mocks Catholicism, to their event next month is deeply offensive,” the Indiana conservative tweeted.
“Last summer the MLB moved their All-Star Game out of Georgia over a lie about voter ID and now they are apologizing and welcoming anti-Catholic bigots back to Dodger Stadium with open arms,” he added. “The MLB should not be apologizing to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, they should be apologizing to Catholics across America. America’s pastime should respect the faith of every American no matter what.”
The insult to believers by the storied franchise that once led the way for integration in professional baseball has put an indelible mark on the team’s place in the history books, at least in the eyes of millions of Catholics who may never look at the Dodgers or Major League Baseball positively again. And the lame attempt at damage control by bringing back “Christian Faith and Family Day” for the first time since the COVID crisis didn’t come across as sincere to many who aren’t simply going to forgive and forget.
In re-entering the political arena, Pence is on a collision course with Trump with the relationship between the two suffering in the aftermath of the 2020 election and the former veep’s condemning of the chaos at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and he has been a frequent target of the former president ever since.
In jumping into the fray, Pence joins former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and South Carolina governor Nikki Haley as an alum of the Trump administration in a rapidly growing field for what is shaping up as a steel cage death match with the lesser candidates taking their best shots at Trump and DeSantis even at the risk of damaging them both for next year’s battle against Biden.
