Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) really, really, really loves hot dogs and did a bizarre video walking the halls of Congress on Wednesday as he professed his undying devotion to them for National Hot Dog Day.
“Well, as you all know, today is National Hot Dog Day and perhaps you also know that hot dog is my favorite meat,” Romney proclaimed while carrying a hot dog slathered with ketchup through the halls of Congress in his hot dog-emblazoned hat.
“I love hot dogs. I love ’em in buns, I love ’em outside of buns, I love ’em with baked beans, I just like hot dogs. It’s the best, you know, best meat there is, without question,” he declared. “So to all of you who like me are celebrating National Hot Dog Day, congratulations to you, and may there be many, many more hot dogs served in our wonderful land.”
That video got the squishy Republican thoroughly dragged on social media as it went viral with well over 3 million views.

A number of people pointed out the incident where Romeny put his pet dog, Seamus, on top of his car and drove for 12 hours. He was mocked and derided for that excursion.
Business Insider reported at the time that the dog suffered from diarrhea during the trip and “allegedly ran away when the Romney family finally reached its vacation destination.”
Romney’s challenger for his Senate seat, Riverton Mayor Trent Staggs, snarked, “If Mitt Romney hadn’t worked so hard to get Biden elected that hot dog in his hand would still be half the price.”

The Utah senator and former presidential nominee has not confirmed whether he is going to run in 2024 but he is “confident” he will win should he seek another six years in D.C. This ad seems to be an attempt to humanize him but it backfired spectacularly.
Romney was unceremoniously barbequed on social media over the video and his chances for reelection look even grimmer after this latest exhibit:
Lol your marketing person sucks

Dear Senate digital directors:
1. Even if your boss’s favorite meat is hot dog, you don’t have to make a National Hot Dog Day video.
2. If your boss says “I love them in buns, I love them outside of buns,” reshoot.
2. You should know better than to have ketchup.

His expensive PR firm advised his comms team to do this because it’ll humanize him. I think he pays too much for PR.

Innocence in children must be protected, but in a 76 year old man the unintentional double-entendres caused by it can cause cringe overdose. https://t.co/2rrZQpkYEZ
