Despite having been all in for former President Donald Trump’s dubious impeachments, Sen. Mitt Romney, an ostensible Republican, isn’t down with the GOP’s current efforts to impeach President Joe Biden, surprise, surprise.
“Look, there has to be the allegation of a high crime or misdemeanor, which there has not been. So it’s an absurd political process. If at some point someone alleges a crime, why then, it’s legitimate, but that hasn’t happened yet,” he told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday.
“There have been lots of lousy presidents, but that’s not a reason to impeach someone, because there’s this little thing called the Constitution. Not doing a good job certainly fits the bill here, but it’s just not in the Constitution,” he added, taking a swipe at President Biden’s demonstrable incompetence.
The remarks came a day after Rep. Lauren Boebert introduced privileged articles of impeachment against the current president over his mishandling of the border crisis.
Tonight, I brought a privileged motion to the floor that will force a vote on the impeachment of Joe Biden.

“Tonight, I brought a privileged motion to the floor that will force a vote on the impeachment of Joe Biden. The American people can no longer be subjected to a President who refuses to secure our borders,” the congresswoman said in a statement posted to Twitter.
“His open border agenda has put every American at greater risk, allowed human traffickers to thrive and given the cartel a free pass. He is not fit to remain as Commander in Chief,” she added.
In a separate statement to Fox News, she accused the president of failing to carry out his constitutional duties.
“Given the severity of the violation of Joe Biden’s constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of the president, United States to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, this is something that we must do with our majorities in the House of Representatives,” she said.
“This is our duty because Joe Biden has neglected the constitutional duty of the office of President of the United States. I introduced the articles of impeachment in the last Congress and had fully intended to introduce them this Congress, but I was also giving some other committees and leadership the opportunity to lead on this,” she added.
Biden intentionally ceded command & control of our border to cartels. His dereliction of duty caused the deaths of over 900 Coloradans from fentanyl, enabled sex-trafficking, & allowed an invasion.

As in her Twitter statement, Boebert also stressed in her statement to Fox News that her articles of impeachment are mainly focused on Biden’s border debacle: “It’s about Joe Biden’s failure to secure the southern border,” she said.
She also explained the privileged aspect of her motion.
“Under Rule IX in the House, we can bring up certain pieces of legislation under a privileged motion. So I would go to the House floor and call up my articles of impeachment and read it in its entirety. And at that point, leadership has a maximum of two days to respond and see if it’s going to be sent to committee or a vote on the articles themselves,” she said.
There’s just one problem. GOP leadership has reportedly since convinced her to temporarily shelve the motion for the time being.
“McCarthy negotiated a deal with Boebert, the Colorado Republican, to send the Biden impeachment resolution for review to the Judiciary and Homeland Security committees, fending off a vote for some time,” the Associated Press reported Thursday morning.
However, Boebert has vowed to bring the motion back to the floor “every day for the rest of my time here in Congress” if the committees slow-walk it.
As for Romney, he’s now once again facing the wrath of the GOP base:
Romney needs to come out of the closet and admit that he’s a democrat.

Then Romney needs to go as well. Birds of a feather and all their corruption

Romney is a lockstep Democrat. Last term for him. He and Liz Cheney can cry together at their professor of gender studies jobs. Good riddance.

Kind of funny, since he voted for Trump to be impeached. What changed with Biden being impeached since there is tangible evidence for the impeachment?

Romney says this as if the Trump impeachment*S* weren’t political. Here, there actually IS evidence of bribery, not some speculative, trumped-up crap plus blatant abuse of the FISA courts.
Can Romney take off the Republican mask already?! You voters in Utah should be ashamed.— timeonly1401 (@its_only_time) June 22, 2023
As previously reported, Romney had enthusiastically supported both Trump impeachments.
