An independent Senate candidate in Montana is making his position on Flock cameras part of his campaign.
Seth Bodnar’s new ad features him blowing one of the security cameras to pieces, directly disagreeing with President Donald Trump about the automated license plate recognition (ALPR) systems.
They have been installed in many cities around the United States, with groups pushing back on what they are calling unlawful surveillance. Though members of the public have little expectation of privacy outside of their homes, critics are pointing out that the system has been abused by officers to follow ex-partners and other people of personal interest. Some claim that they have been improperly targeted by law enforcement as a result of an incorrect Flock camera hit.
So it’s safe to say that this ad may strike a chord with many voters:

“Flock off, man!” he opens the video.
“Are you tired of security cameras watching your every move? Yeah, me too,” he continues, over footage of him pulling a gun from the back of a vehicle. “I’ve got a message we can send to them.”
He points out that even mundane tasks like “going to church,” “building a new deck” and “getting groceries” are subject to surveillance by government cameras, even if you aren’t suspected of doing anything wrong.
“The whole thing isn’t just creepy as hell, it’s part of a massive economy designed to buy and sell our personal data,” Bodnar said.
“They are all getting rich, and we’re getting screwed, and nobody is holding them accountable,” he adds, referring to Big Tech.
Promising to fight back against the companies and entities hell-bent on tracking Americans, he aims and shoots at the camera.
