A quartet of House Democrats traveled to El Salvador to meet with alleged MS-13 member Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the deported “Maryland man” who has become the party’s biggest martyr since George Floyd.
Despite the refusal of House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-KY) to authorize the use of taxpayer money for the trip, the four lawmakers chose to follow through on their grandstanding pilgrimage to pressure the government of El Salvador into releasing him, but the trip was at least temporarily spoiled when their request to meet with Garcia was denied.
In a Monday appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL), who, along with Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), led the delegation, said that they had been rebuffed because they weren’t in the Central American country “in an official capacity.”

Frost explained that they had sent a letter to Comer to request that the CODEL be approved as official business and declared that they will persist.
“We’re not giving up,” the trash-talking AOC wannabe said. “We have more meetings scheduled.”
After the four were rejected, Comer reiterated his opposition to permitting a dime of taxpayer money to be used by Democrats for their attention-seeking stunts.
“El Salvador just denied Democrats from meeting with the MS-13 gang member because they didn’t travel to the country in an official capacity,” the Kentucky Republican wrote in a post to X. “I will never authorize a penny of taxpayer dollars to send Democrats to El Salvador for a photo-op & margaritas.”

“Trump is illegally arresting, jailing, & deporting people with no due process. We must hold the Administration accountable for these illegal acts and demand Kilmar’s release. Today it’s him, tomorrow it could be anyone else,” Frost said in a post to X after landing in El Salvador.
Joining Frost and Garcia are Reps. Yassamin Ansari (AZ) and Maxine Dexter (OR), the first party members to follow Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) who traveled to El Salvador last week, getting to meet with the alleged gangsta for “margaritas” with pictures of their chummy sit-down creating a public relations problem for Democrats who are being rightly accused of being sympathetic – if not allies – to the violent foreign criminal organization.
Congresswoman Dexter – whose sole claim to fame was her call to “f**k Trump” earlier this year – posted a statement to X expressing her devotion to springing Garcia and accusing the president of creating a “constitutional crisis” by deporting vicious illegal alien predators who should have never been allowed into the country to begin with.

“It is absurd that you both displayed active hostility for over two years toward the Committee’s oversight of the Biden Border Crisis and the consequences of millions of illegal aliens entering the country, yet now, you are seeking travel at Committee expense to meet with foreign gang members,” Comer wrote in a letter to Frost and Garcia last week.
“You may be pleased to know that a Democrat Senator, Chris Van Hollen, was photographed just yesterday in El Salvador enjoying margaritas garnished with cherry slices with the foreign gang member your letter references,” he added. “If you also wish to meet with him, you can spend your own money.”
