MSNBC’s Chris Matthews predicts big Biden comeback

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is predicting a “comeback” for President Joe Biden, despite what is evident to anyone who has watched the feeble 81-year-old in the last weeks and months.

Speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Matthews suggested Biden has a strategy and those who are not supporting him by calling for him to step aside will “pay for it.”

“He is a politician who’s been good at it,” Matthews said on Thursday’s program.

“He’s been reelected every time since then in Delaware with pretty healthy majorities. And life — he lost his wife and he lost his daughter and he found Jill. Now, who’s going to listen to Jill or George Clooney?” he questioned.

“I’m telling you, it’s personal. He’s had the elite and it’s so true about the elite. He is absolutely right about the elite,” Matthews argued.

“Look at President Obama. He served for eight years loyally, and yet Obama backed Hillary Clinton for president and didn’t back him. But I hear he never even invited him upstairs. He had a good reason to be resentful, but he isn’t. He puts up with it, with the elite,” Matthews contended.

“But right now, he’s got the poor people,” Matthews argued.

“He’s got minorities. He’s got Hispanics. He’s going to put out the labor. He’s going to hold that base of the Democratic Party, which he will need in November. And I’m telling you, people are going to end up rooting for him in October because he will have a comeback,” the retired talk show host added.

“And in this elite-fashioned attack on him, they’re going to pay for it,” he warned.

“But in the end, they’re going to end up voting for him. So, I think Biden will be the little guy. He’ll be the Democrat in this race, the true Democrat. And he’s going to get people to turn for him in October. It’s going to be stunning,” Matthews predicted.

“He is not quitting. He is not built to quit. That’s what I think. And I think it’s the most important thing we’re going to resolve here by tonight,” he declared.

Matthews’ predictions come amid swirling reports and speculation about Biden’s re-election campaign. As top donors, including actor George Clooney, turn from their stalwart support of the president, urging him bluntly to leave the race, some supporters continue to dismiss the warning signs.

The arguments in favor of Biden’s campaign seemed to hit a wall after his multiple missteps at the NATO summit in Washington Thursday evening.

The president referred to Vice President Kamala Harris and Vice President Trump and introduced Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin” before he backtracked to correct his error.

As multiple members of his own party called on Biden to quit the race, the president doubled down, saying he was not going anywhere unless “data” showed him he needed to.

“If what he said at the end of his presser is true, it sounds like Biden’s team has not been very candid with him about what the data is showing: the age issue is a huge and potentially insurmountable concern and his odds of victory are very, very slim,” wrote former Obama adviser David Axelrod in a social media post.

Others on X also weighed in on Matthews’ rosy outlook for Biden.
