MTG on Freedom Caucus: ‘I’m not a member of the burn-it-all-down caucus anymore’

U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) went out of her way to disassociate herself from conservative lawmakers who make up the House Freedom Caucus.

The avid Trump supporter was voted out of the caucus over the summer when she backed Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) when he struck a deal with President Joe Biden to craft a debt limit bill, and she was speaking to reporters on Thursday when she blasted the “burn-it-all-down caucus.”

“I’m not a member of the burn-it-all-down caucus anymore,” Greene said. “I’m a greatly, very happily a free agent and I want to do my job here.”

Members of the Freedom Caucus announced on Thursday that they would withhold support from a procedural vote on legislation to fund the Pentagon over demands on spending cuts — McCarthy punted on the voter, according to The Hill.

Greene made it clear Thursday that she would not support the spending bill because it includes funding for Ukraine:

But she was also frustrated with conservative lawmakers following a closed-door GOP conference meeting, The Hill reported.

“A lot of my colleagues that are saying those things weren’t even in that room, so they weren’t there to hear any of the conversation nor raise their concerns,” Greene said after the meeting. “They can’t stand out and hold press conferences but not attend our conference meetings and expect to work things out.”

Greene then said she was no longer a member of the “burn-it-all-down” caucus after a reporter asked her if she was frustrated with Freedom Caucus members.

The Hill shared more on her “evolution” on Capitol Hill:

The Georgia Republican came to Congress in 2021 as a rabble rouser, quickly becoming a conservative thorn in the side of GOP leadership.

But last year she emerged as a close ally of McCarthy, supporting his bid for the Speakership and urging against any internal challenge — a stark difference from many of her colleagues in the Freedom Caucus, whose demands of McCarthy and support for other members led to the historic 15-ballot election.
