Things are rapidly heating up between Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) founder Elon Musk and congressional Republicans.
On Tuesday afternoon, Musk posted a scathing tweet slamming congressional Republicans over the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that they’re working to pass, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore.
This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.
Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.

Later that afternoon, House Speaker Mike Johnson responded to Musk’s tweet by calling him “terribly wrong.”
“It’s very disappointing, ok. I’ve come to consider Elon a good friend. He’s obviously a very intelligent person, and he’s done a lot of great work,” he told reporters. “With all due respect, my friend Elon is terribly wrong about the one big, beautiful bill.”

According to Politico, Johnson also revealed that he’d spoken with Musk by phone on Monday about the “virtues” of the bill.
“And he seemed to understand that,” the speaker maintained. “But for him to come out and pan the whole bill, to me, is just very disappointing… very, very surprising in light of the conversation I had with him yesterday.”
“It’s not personal. I just deeply regret that he’s made this mistake,” he added.
On Tuesday, Musk also reposted a tweet that accused Sen. Lindsey Graham of having spent $400,000 of taxpayer money on hotel room services while visiting Ukraine:
Why is the hotel bill so high? The room service must be incredible! https://t.co/xi8sd3qMhb

Graham fired back against the rumor later that afternoon by explaining that the supposed hotel bills that were being used against him as evidence were, in fact, State Department monthly contracts.
“This isn’t a travel expense report,” he wrote. “It’s a monthly contract between the State Department for U.S. diplomats in a war zone — nothing to do with my trip.”
Fake news. More BS.
I’m all-in trying to help President @realDonaldTrump end this war — and making sure Putin doesn’t win.

Both events highlight the growing rift between congressional Republicans and Musk, not to mention President Donald Trump, who continues to proudly champion the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”
In a Truth Social post published Monday, the president called on congressional Republicans “to work as fast as they can to get this Bill” to his desk by the Fourth of July.
The president also praised the bill as “a historic opportunity to turn our country around after four disastrous years” under former President Joe Biden.
“We will take a massive step to balancing our Budget by enacting the largest mandatory Spending Cut, EVER, and Americans will get to keep more of their money with the largest Tax Cut, EVER, and no longer taxing Tips, Overtime, or Social Security for Seniors — Something 80 Million Voters supported in November,” he added.
While the bill isn’t perfect by any means, its supporters say it’ll boost the economy by re-upping the president’s 2017 tax cuts and getting rid of some — though not all — useless programs.
It’ll also reportedly boost the military and border security.

Musk, meanwhile, remains committed to educating the American people about the country’s enormous debt crisis.
“Mammoth spending bills are bankrupting America! ENOUGH,” he tweeted late Tuesday.
Interest payments already consume 25% of all government revenue.
If the massive deficit spending continues, there will only be money for interest payments and nothing else! No social security, no medical, no defense … nothing. https://t.co/UKp4HYdKRt

Musk is backed in his opposition to the “Big, Beautiful Bill” by Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie.
