Musk graciously thanks Trump as special government employee status ends

Elon Musk announced the imminent end of his role in the Trump administration and expressed his gratitude to the president in a message.

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO thanked President Donald Trump in a post on X, where he noted the coming end to his special government employee status and his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The special status awarded to the billionaire limited him to 130 days in service in the administration, and he took to social media to comment days after the House passed Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” which increases the debt limit by $4 trillion, among other things.

“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote.

“The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” Musk added.

In earlier comments, the X owner expressed how he would soon be back to business in his own ventures.

Musk said he was “disappointed” in the latest policy bill during a CBS interview.

“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit … and it undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said on “CBS Sunday Morning.”

While critics were quick to suggest Musk’s White House departure was evidence of some falling out with the president, social media users threw cold water on the theories and celebrated all he’s done.
