NBA star gives conflicting reaction to Britney Spears after she was slapped in the face by his security

Chaos ensued in Las Vegas after singer Britney Spears reportedly grabbed NBA star Victor Wembanyama from behind, resulting in his security detail allegedly backhanding the pop diva, nearly causing her to fall to the ground and knocking off her glasses.

The incident spurred Spears to file a police report and the incident is now being investigated.

Wembanyama insists that he didn’t see Spears and was concentrating on walking forward as a ton of people yelled at him for attention.

“Something did happen, a little bit, when I was walking with some security from the team to some restaurant,” he told ESPN reporters on Thursday. “We were in the hall. There was a lot of people, so people were calling [at] me, obviously. There was one person who was calling me but we talked before with security.”

Because of the crowds, the 19-year-old San Antonio Spurs player said he “couldn’t stop.” Then someone, allegedly Spears, “grabbed” him from behind.

“I didn’t see what happened because I was walking straight and didn’t stop,” Wembanyama stated. “That person grabbed me from behind — not on my shoulder — she grabbed me from behind. I just know the security pushed her away.”

He went on to comment that he didn’t know “how much force” his security used, but he does know that they “pushed her away.”

“I didn’t stop to look so I could walk in and enjoy a nice dinner,” he said referring to the restaurant he was heading to.

Wembanyama claims he didn’t know the person involved in the incident was Spears, 41, until Thursday.

“I didn’t know for a couple of hours, but when I came back to the hotel … I thought it was no big deal, and then security of the Spurs told me it was Britney Spears,” he told ESPN. “At first, I was like, ‘You’re joking,’ but yeah, it turns out it was Britney Spears. I never saw her face. I just kept walking straight.”

The alleged smack across the singer’s face occurred at celebrity hotspot Catch inside the Aria Resort & Casino in Las Vegas Wednesday night, according to TMZ.

A source told TMZ that Spears was a “fan” of the young NBA star who just signed with the Spurs in the 2023 NBA draft. She wanted to take a photo with the player. Spears was with her husband Sam Asghari, 29, and they were photographed approaching Wembanyama, who was walking alongside his security guard.

After the incident, the security guard apologized to Spears at her table a source told TMZ. He claimed he didn’t realize it was Spears and that she accepted his apology.

The security guard told Spears, “You understand how it is when you’re being swarmed by fans.”

She refuted the NBA player’s claim that she “grabbed” him on Instagram Thursday.

“It was really loud, so I tapped him on the shoulder to get his attention. I am aware of the player’s statement where he mentions I ‘grabbed him from behind’ but I simply tapped his shoulder,” Spears wrote.

“His security then backhanded me in the face without looking back, in front of a crowd,” she asserted. “Nearly knocking me down and causing my glasses to fall off my face.”

The singer is demanding a public apology for the security guard’s alleged actions.

“I have yet to receive a public apology from the player, his security, or their organization,” she wrote, adding, “I hope they will.”

Spears’ husband also called out the Spurs organization as a whole.

“The blame should fall on the coward who did this, the people who hired him without proper vetting, and a systematic culture of disregard for women within sports and entertainment,” the fitness instructor proclaimed on his Instagram Story Thursday.

Asghari says that he “looks forward” to seeing how the organization handles the incident.

Spears filed a police report with the Metropolitan Police Dept. alleging battery.
