Newsmax obtains video of Alec Baldwin car crash, reports it contradicts his story

Alec Baldwin’s “whale” of a tale explaining his Long Island run-in with a tree hardly stood up to scrutiny after Newsmax obtained footage from the vehicle that allegedly cut the actor off.

New York’s State of Emergency was enough to cancel Columbus Day festivities in the city, but it wasn’t the only parade getting rained on Monday. As it happened, the award-winning actor had many believing he’d turned to his craft to seek pity after crashing his wife’s car, only for Newsmax to negate Baldwin’s claims with video evidence of his car driving off the road.

The footage obtained by Newsmax came from the front of the commercial truck driving in East Hampton, Long Island. Moments after what was described as a legal right turn onto Montauk Highway out of a parking lot, the truck appeared to begin making another right turn when the actor-driven Range Rover entered the shot from the right of the vehicle, striking a mailbox and then a tree.

“The truck Alec Baldwin blamed for ‘cutting him off’ does not appear to impede his path,” detailed Newsmax. “Instead, the footage shows Alec Baldwin’s vehicle attempting to maneuver around the truck after it had already completed its turn. There is no visible indication that the truck forced Alec Baldwin from his lane, nor any sudden obstruction requiring evasive action. Seconds later, his SUV loses control and crashes into the tree.”

Footage from the truck came after Baldwin had taken to Instagram to convey how he and his passenger brother, Stephen Baldwin, were okay after crashing his wife Hilaria’s car while blaming the truck.

“This morning, I was in this car accident,” recounted the actor, who made a point of thanking people involved with a film festival over the weekend before getting into details. “Guy cut me off … big garbage truck … the size of a whale.”

“Never seen a garbage truck … must’ve been something commercial, for like, taking away material from construction or something. It was the biggest garbage truck I’ve ever seen. Anyway, I won’t go into the details now. I won’t bore you. But to avoid hitting him,” claimed Baldwin, who has a history of violent encounters. “I hit a tree. I hit a big fat tree and crushed my car, my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car — I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine. And I’m fine, and my brother’s fine. Bompity bomp.”

A statement from the East Hampton Town Police Department explained, “There is no further investigation, as this is a routine traffic accident with no criminality involved.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Baldwin had his own statement on the accident with his own brand of messaging, “thanks again friends, praise God … both doing OK a little banged up but ok !! so thank you to all decent people with loving kind comments … as for everyone else praying for you .. as we know the roots of the tree of life can be uprooted … when your faith is in the system.”
