Newsom takes Trump feud to new level, declares president ‘mentally ill’

California Governor Gavin Newsom is calling for President Donald Trump’s removal after talking about the state during a rally.

In a statement provided to The Hill, Newsom declared Trump “mentally ill,” saying it’s “TIME FOR THE 25TH!” after the president appeared to imply he would be okay with Iran bombing Los Angeles and San Diego. White House spokesman Davis Ingle issued a response, calling Newsom “the worst governor in America, and he also may be the dumbest.”

Californians exploded with outrage at the statement, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who said the statement was “dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety.”

“No American city is expendable, and no American family should ever be treated as collateral damage,” said Republican Jim Desmond, who is running for the House in a San Diego-area district. California-based Republican strategist Matthew Klink argued that the statements could be used by Democrats to rally the base ahead of the midterms, which could be bad for the Republican Party’s already strained relationship with voters.

“While the president’s statement may get laughs in Nebraska, in California it highlights why our state’s voters passionately dislike Trump,” he said. “Last night, apparently, the feeling became mutual.”

However, as BizPac Review previously reported, CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale suggested that Democrats are misinterpreting Trump’s words from the speech. He shared the clip on X, arguing that there is “important” context missing from the statement.

“This isn’t a direct quote from Trump, and I very much don’t think it’s a correct paraphrase. Trump has repeatedly argued that the consequences of the war, like higher gas prices, are a small price to pay compared to what an unchecked Iran could allegedly do. Last night, in especially rambling and incomplete fashion, he 1) claimed high prices are temporary and suggested they’re ‘artificial’; 2) contrasted that to the damage of Iran supposedly taking out a city; 3) and then, in especially confusing style, repeated his old point that ‘this,’ as in the consequences of the war, is a small price to pay to avoid something like a city being wiped out,” Dale explained. “It’s Trump’s fault you kinda have to be steeped in TrumpRallySpeak to know what he was saying last night, and of course you can say it’s inappropriate regardless for the president to casually float the possibility of a city being wiped out, but the context exists and is important.”

This has done nothing to quell leftist outrage, which may be used by Democrats as fuel in the days leading up to the midterm elections.
