“My name is Nicholas. What’s going on?” the officer asked, gently approaching the distressed woman.

“Tell my mom and dad that I love them,” she sobbed.

“No, no, no, please don’t do it. We care about you. Listen, we care about you. We don’t want to see you hurt yourself, okay? We don’t want to see you hurt yourself, okay?” the officer responded.

“Can I come closer? Can I come closer? Yes?” he continued, clasping her hands through the glass. “Listen, we care about you. We don’t want you to hurt yourself, okay? We don’t want you to hurt yourself, okay? Listen, whatever you are going through, we can fix it. We can try to fix it, okay?”

“Take me to the hospital,” she suggested through tears.

“Yes, we’ll take you to the hospital…We can do whatever you want to do, okay? Anything is better than this, okay? Please, please let me help you,” the kind officer begged.

Eventually, the NYPD’s elite Emergency Services Unit was able to bring the woman to the other side of the guardrail, where she was safe.
