‘No wonder her city is a sewer!’ San Francisco mayor’s response to DeSantis criticism slammed as ‘insanity’

The feud between Florida and California heated up this week after presidential hopeful Gov. Ron DeSantis took a trip out west and toured the “collapsing” city of San Francisco.

“We’re here in the once great city of San Francisco,” DeSantis said in a video released on Tuesday. “We came in here and we saw people defecating on the street, we saw people using heroin, we saw people smoking crack cocaine.”

“And you look around,” he continued, “the city is not vibrant anymore. It’s really collapsed because of leftist policies.”

“No wonder why we’ve had so many people move from San Francisco to Florida over the last few years,” the governor said in the powerful ad. “We gotta stop this madness.”

On Twitter, DeSantis stated, “Leadership matters.”

“Cities like San Francisco that have embraced leftist policies have destroyed the quality of life of their citizens and sparked an exodus of productive people to greener pastures,” he tweeted. “We need to restore sanity across this country.”

“What I witnessed in San Francisco was shocking and saddening, yet unsurprising,” DeSantis tweeted on Thursday morning. “The failures of states like California are the direct result of a failed progressive, and woke, agenda.”

“I’m running for president because decline is a choice, success is attainable, and freedom is worth fighting for,” he stated. “We cannot allow our country to descend into a woketopia where freedoms are infringed and the truth is discarded. Florida is proof that America can do better.”

San Francisco Mayor London Breed took issue with DeSantis’s assessment of her city — and was promptly dragged online for her remarks. The horrific conditions DeSantis filmed, she argued, was just an attempt by the GOP candidate to get “attention.”

“He’s using the oldest playbook in politics to get attention,” Breed told Fox 2, “talking bad about what’s wrong and not necessarily talking about solutions to fix it.”

Not like President Joe Biden, Breed noted, who was in San Francisco “yesterday talking about climate change and artificial intelligence.”

Because nothing will clean up the streets of San Francisco faster than a good, AI-generated lecture on climate change.

“Leave it to a Democrat to declare that the solution to San Francisco’s massive problem of homelessness, crime and drug addiction is to pay lip service to climate change and artificial intelligence,” one user wrote on Twitter.

“It is time to ridicule mock and shame people like Breed,” one Twitter user suggested. “They’ve taken politics to a dark place.”
