NYC Mayor Adams goes back on his word on masks, blows off upset parents for glamorous night on town

After going back on his word and extending a mandatory mask mandate for children under the age of 5, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was confronted by furious parents as he attended a Broadway premiere on Sunday, the latest in a string of glamorous events on the mayor’s social calendar.

Adams, who is quickly becoming known as a politician who enjoys rubbing shoulders with celebrities, was greeted outside the Ethel Barrymore Theater by angry, sign-holding parents chanting “Unmask our kids!” on his way into the opening of Paradise Square, a new Broadway musical centering on free black Americans and Irish immigrants in 1863 New York.

As BizPac Review reported in mid-March, Adams dropped the mask requirements for K-12 students but kept them in place for preschool-age toddlers who are unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, vowing – barring a spike in COVID cases – “we’re going to lift for your babies as well. I want them taking their mask off.”

On April 1, a state judge struck down the toddler mask mandate, calling the rule “arbitrary, capricious and unreasonable.”

However, just hours later, Adams tweeted out that another judge had stayed the order.

“A judge has ruled in favor of the administration and this evening stayed the order from earlier today on masks for 2 – 4 year olds,” Adams stated. “Every decision we make is with our children’s health and safety in mind. Children between 2 and 4 should continue to wear their masks in school and daycare come Monday.”

It was too much for some parents who have grown weary of forcing face coverings on their toddlers while their mayor schmoozes with stars.

“He has angered parents with a whirl of social events, including a party with Cara Delevingne at the new One Vanderbilt skyscraper last week, as well as a trip to see Sarah Jessica Parker and her husband Matthew Broderick appear in Broadway play Plaza Suite,” the Daily Mail reported, adding that the mayor was also seen on Saturday at the white-tie Gridiron Dinner in Washington D.C. “with a long list of politicians and journalists.”

Calls to “Recall Eric Adams” have flooded Twitter.

“He is a fraud and a fake,” one user tweeted. “He lied to get elected and now he has attacked our children & CONDEMNED THEM TO SUFFOCATING MASKS WHILE HE FRICKING PARTIES MASKLESS all night long. Parents stand up for your children.”

“You are a Fudging Liar, Eric!” another user exclaimed. “Every decision you make is political and has nothing to do with health or safety! ZERO Science supports this. Wake up New Yorkers and Recall Eric Adams!”

“This literally makes no scientific sense,” a third user tweeted. “Like none. You went from election winner to fraud in record time. Congrats — where’s your data those 2 – 4 year olds are super spreaders?”

But it was a user who goes by “Passengers United” that got to the crux of the matter, asking why New York City’s mayor is “going to a Broadway show and clubbing when the city is in a crime crisis. He needs to be out riding the subways and helping the police.”
