Obama judge orders Trump to pay full SNAP benefits, gives cover to Dems to drag out shutdown

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to immediately pay this month’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, which have been delayed as a result of the Democratic Party’s shutdown of the federal government.

In a Thursday hearing at the U.S. District Court in Rhode Island, Judge John McConnell demanded that the administration find the money to refill the government EBT cards for November by Friday.

“People have gone without for too long,” the Barack Obama appointee declared, ordering the government to not only tap into a contingency fund to pay SNAP benefits, but also to take money from other sources to make up the difference.

“The evidence shows that people will go hungry, food pantries will be overburdened, and needless suffering will occur” if full benefits aren’t paid out, McConnell said, according to CNBC.

“Faced with a choice between advancing relief and entrenching delay, it chose the latter — an outcome that predictably magnifies harm and undermines the very purpose of the program it administers,” McConnell added.

“While the President of the United States professes a commitment to helping those it serves, the government’s actions tell a different story,” the activist judge wrote.

“Without SNAP funding for the month of November, 16 million children are immediately at risk of going hungry,” the judge said during the hearing. “This should never happen in America. In fact, it’s likely that SNAP recipients are hungry as we sit here.”

What he didn’t do was blame his own party for depriving tens of millions of their food stamps, as many contend the SNAP delay never would have happened had Democrats put the American people before their own political agenda and voted for the “clean” continuing resolution to fund the government.

“SNAP BENEFITS, which increased by Billions and Billions of Dollars (MANY FOLD!) during Crooked Joe Biden’s disastrous term in office…will be given only when the Radical Left Democrats open up government, which they can easily do, and not before!” Trump said in a Tuesday post to Truth Social that McConnell referenced during the hearing.

Judge McConnell’s decree immensely benefits the party that was further emboldened by Tuesday’s election results and now feels empowered to extend the “Schumer shutdown” indefinitely with the Obama appointee’s intervention, immunizing them from criticism while needy families starve at Thanksgiving.

“I think there will be some pretty substantial damage done to a Democratic brand that has been rehabilitated, if on the heels of an election in which the people told us to keep fighting, we immediately stop fighting,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said on Thursday, signaling the Democrats are not going to give an inch on reopening the government until their demands are met.

Vice President JD Vance reacted to Judge McConnell’s order.

“It’s an absurd ruling because you have a federal judge effectively telling us what we have to do in the midst of a Democrat government shutdown…,” the vice president said.

“What we’d like to do is for the Democrats to open up the government of course, then we can fund SNAP and we can also do a lot of other good things for the American people,” Vance added. “But in the midst of a shutdown we can’t have a federal court telling the president how he has to triage the situation.”
