Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CCalifornia) told MSNBC host Jen Psaki on Sunday that he is so obsessed with watching Fox News every night that his staff has had to hold interventions to make him stop, while also raving about how the network contributes to the “mental health crisis.”

“As you reflect on what you’ve learned here from talking to these legislators, are there different ways you are going to talk about issues like gun violence and the need for gun safety measures, or abortion rights? Is there a messaging in language issue, or is it more you say the same things to everybody and there are more people with you than you think?” Psaki asked Newsom.
“One thing I learned from everyone, including the caucus today, is they’re so upset about being on the defensive. They’re so upset about the messaging on the other side, the anger industry, particularly the entertainment wing of the Republican Party, this surround sound on Fox with all these, I don’t even like saying his name, Tucker Carlson, or the other guy, they’re all the same,” Newsom sneered on “Inside with Jen Psaki.”
“And One America News and Newsmax, and what they’re doing to divide this country, it’s, you know… Where illusion rules, not facts,” he speciously asserted.
He went on to say that he watches Fox News every night despite spewing hatred for the hosts that appear on the network.
Gavin, you’re pathetic and here are a few things Newsom doesn’t want you to know:
He talks constantly about phantom “book bans” in other states, but never mentions that our own state has the lowest literacy rate in the country.
He calls the California Exodus a “Fox News myth,”…

“Do you occasionally turn on Fox to see what happens?” Psaki went on to ask.
“No, no. Not occasionally. Every night,” he responded.
Then he was asked if other Democrats should speak on Fox News and Newsom’s answer predictably amounted to advised censorship.
Your party is promoting:
– book banning
– limiting speech in classrooms
– silencing people in the boardroom
– fining librariansBut please tell us more about your version of “freedom of speech.” https://t.co/hKMkGUp3ui

“Every night? Do you think Democrats should still be appearing on Fox, or should they not be appearing on Fox?” Psaki asked in what appeared to be a preplanned setup for the question.
“It contributes to the mental health crisis in this state, so on the basis of one’s own personal conditions, I would not recommend it. My staff is quite literally trying to have interventions with me about it. They say I’m too obsessed with that. But I need to understand it,” Newsom claimed, intimating that he wants to know his enemy before the next election.
“You want to know the other side thinks,” Psaki confirmed.
“I don’t want to know what they think, I want to see the patterns. When you see the patterns that emerge,” Newsom concluded.
During that same show, Newsom tore into Republican governors with unfounded claims once again that many consider the exact opposite of the truth. He called for more gun control as he mocked conservatives and the Second Amendment.

“One of the worst crime and murder rates in America and one of the worst mental health records of any governor in America,” he told Psaki concerning Governor Greg Abbott (R-Texas). “I’m not so convinced about the merits of his leadership.”
He went on to hit other conservative governors as well.
“Eight of the top 10 murder states are Republican states,” he misleadingly asserted, not mentioning that those states have major cities that Democrats control. ”Seven of the top 10 dependent states ― God forbid, dependent states ― are red states.”
“The life expectancy in the south and they’re not expanding Medicaid and prenatal care and providing child care? It’s jaw-dropping. How they all continue to get reelected is beyond me. Infant mortality? You care about life, and you look at life expectancy? You care about life, and you have kids that are gunned down by weapons of war? Spare me. All in the name of freedom, as you’re banning books?” Newsom railed.

Periodic reminder that when they accuse us of “banning books” they’re referring to pornographic books which are offered to kids in schools across the country.

“With all due respect, we should not be on the defensive as the Democratic Party,” Newsom proclaimed. “The Republican Party should be on their heels, not us.”
For someone who claims he is not running for the presidency in 2024, Newsom is certainly making the media rounds. Far more so than President Biden or his campaign are doing at this point.
