Over 1,000 suspected illegal alien gang members receiving big perks from taxpayers in NYC: report

New ICE data shows that a staggering number of illegal migrants now roaming the streets of New York City are convicted felons or facing criminal charges.

“Of the 759,218 illegal-border crossers living in the Big Apple the feds were aware of as of Nov. 17, a jaw-dropping 58,626 — 7.7% — were either previously convicted of crimes or had criminal charges pending, according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency data,” the New York Post reported.

The alarming figures show that 1,053 migrants in the city are “suspected or known gang members,” according to ICE.

More than 223,000 illegal migrants have poured into the Big Apple just over the last two years, part of the stunning total of more than 700k who entered the U.S. illegally and took up residence in New York City as of November 17, according to ICE data.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY), who represents parts of Staten Island and Brooklyn, reacted to a Fox News story on the ICE report by writing in a post on X that New York City Mayor Eric Adams needs to “drop the charade” and work with the federal agency “to have these perps detained & deported!”

“It’s shocking that Democrats have gone so far out of their way to harbor gang members, drug traffickers, and other criminals who are in our country illegally,” Malliotakis told the New York Post.

“In many cases, they’ve provided them with housing, food, and healthcare. They need to stop using New Yorkers’ hard-earned tax dollars to shield criminals wreaking havoc on our streets and instead cooperate with ICE to have them deported,” she said.

The Republican lawmaker added that she has been trying to get data from the NYPD via a Freedom of Information Law request, “but they keep stonewalling.”

She told Newsmax in a recent interview that “we don’t know the extent of the damage” caused by the illegal population since the mayor and city officials are not releasing the figures.

“The nationwide numbers largely mirror those in New York City, the data showed, with 662,586 – or 8.6% — of the 7.8 million illegal immigrants living in the United States currently having a criminal conviction or charges pending,” Fox News noted.

New York City ICE Director Kenneth Genalo told the Post last week that it would take a lifetime to clear the city of the criminals that we have” if things don’t change.

Queens Democrat Councilman Robert Holden told the outlet, “These numbers make it clear what everyone but our elected officials already know: sanctuary city laws are endangering New Yorkers by shielding criminals instead of protecting law-abiding citizens.”

“What does any criminal do?” Council Minority Leader Joe Borelli (R-Staten Island) said. “They run away to somewhere else.”

The staggering numbers in New York City left him “shocked and appalled, but not surprised.”

“The Democratic Party, top to bottom, is responsible for every single one of these criminals and should be financially responsible to compensate crime victims,” he said.

“City Hall refuses to take action,” said Holden, who co-sponsored legislation with Borelli to repeal sanctuary laws but the effort stalled thanks to the far-left majority on the Council.

The mayor’s office, meanwhile, has pointed to Washington, D.C., and the Biden administration for the problems now plaguing the city.

“Mayor Adams has repeatedly said that while we will continue to respect our city’s sanctuary laws, we must also have a serious conversation about the small number of individuals who repeatedly commit violent crimes in our city and the consequences they face,” Adams spokesperson Kayla Mamelak told The Post. “We must also fix this nation’s unsuccessful border policies that have led us to this place.”
