‘Overwhelmed’: Surreal scenes as Chicago police stations transform into makeshift migrant shelters

In their city where progressive policies have already allowed crime to grow unchecked, video captured the latest challenge for Chicago police as the crisis at the southern border has transformed Windy City police stations into makeshift shelters.

While New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) has been hemorrhaging taxpayer dollars to put up thousands of illegals in nearly half of all available hotel rooms throughout the Big Apple, Chicago leadership, transitioning from former Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) to newly inaugurated Mayor Brandon Johnson (D), has asserted the funds are not available to provide such posh accommodations to the continually arriving aliens.

Instead, police stations across the city were seen with bedrolls laid down outside and in the lobbies to provide shelter, further jeopardizing law enforcement’s ability to protect the citizenry.

“Police Stations all across Chicago tonight are overwhelmed with homeless migrants who are continually arriving everyday. Hundreds have been sleeping & eating on the floors — putting severe strain on officers who are trying to carry out their daily law enforcement duties,” Independent journalist Rebecca Brannon posted on social media.

“According to a report by WBEZ Chicago, over 8,500 migrants have arrived from the southern border since late last year. The city is now seeing between 100 and 200 migrants arrive daily,” she continued. “Today I visited several stations across Chicago capturing this humanitarian crisis now spreading across the country.”

Footage from numerous stations across Chicago depicted belongings strewn about with several aliens sleeping through the middle of the day.

“Trash and belongings of migrants are piling up in and outside the several police stations I visited across Chicago. Some precincts have migrants bring their items outside…to help control or prevent bed bugs. I’m told just about every station is like this across the city,” Brannon reported.

“A source close to the Chicago PD shared that most migrants wander the city during the day and then return in the evening in larger numbers,” the journalist added. “The 12th precinct alone has at times seen over 100 migrants. And at the 14th district, a migrant shared [with] me that women and children sleep inside the station at night and the men stay outside to help with capacity.”

Compounding the crisis wrought from the contending with the aliens, dwarfed when compared to the estimated 5 million that have entered the United States since President Joe Biden was inaugurated, was the matter of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker having approved providing health care coverage to illegals and other non-citizens that nearly quintupled in cost from an estimated $220 million to roughly $1.1 billion in handouts.

Lightfoot had begged Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) to stop busing aliens to Chicago before her term ended, stating, “We simply have no more shelters, spaces, or resources to accommodate an increase of individuals at this level, with little coordination or care, that does not pose a risk to them or others.”

Meanwhile, Adams, another proponent of sanctuary cities, has proposed disbursing the illegals evenly throughout the country.

“We have 108,000 cities, villages, towns. If everyone takes a small portion of that, and if it’s coordinated at the border, to ensure that those who are coming here to this country in a lawful manner is actually moved throughout the entire country, it is not a burden on one city,” he tried, despite such a plan likely qualifying as kidnapping, a charge leveled against Abbott’s busing scheme that moved only voluntary illegals closer to where they actually wanted to be.
