Pelosi has instructions for Dems ahead of Congress joint session that will make you chuckle

President Donald Trump is planning to address a joint session of Congress, and Democrats are already gearing up with their “resistance” strategies.

While some are throwing tantrums by deciding not to attend Tuesday’s speech, others have given the Democratic caucus some tips on how to behave. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi advised lawmakers to not generate their own headlines with outbursts during the address.

“Any demonstration of disagreement, whether it’s visual or whatever, just let him stew in his own juice. Don’t be any grist for the mill to say this was inappropriate,” Pelosi said, according to the Washington Post.

“I’m going there to hear what he has to say about Medicaid, about taking medical care away from more children, middle-income seniors who need long-term health care, and people with disabilities,” said the California Democrat who infamously tore Trump’s speech during his State of the Union address in his first term.

The 84-year-old who had hip replacement surgery in December after a fall conceded that there might be ” a moment” where Democrats may need to react to the president’s speech.

“Unless you have something that is a moment,” she said. “That’s what a moment was, when I tore up the speech.”

Meanwhile, Senate and House Democrats are encouraging lawmakers to attend Tuesday’s speech and bring along a guest who has been affected by Trump’s policies.

“We ask that House Democrats attending the Joint Address bring a guest who has been harmed by the Trump administration’s early actions or will be hurt by the House Republican budget,” the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee said in a memo.

Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries said the president needs to answer the questions: “Why has he failed to do anything to lower the high cost of living in the United States of America, and why has the Trump administration unleashed far-right extremism on the American people in a way that represents an assault on the American way of life?”

The chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus indicated there will be a fashion statement made during the speech, which is not technically a State of the Union address.

“Women across this country are furious,” Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez (D-NM) said. according to Politico. “And so I think we’re going to bring that fury to the State of the Union in creative ways, and we’re going to make sure that Trump knows and that Americans who are watching understand Trump’s America.”
