Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy put White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in the hot seat during Wednesday’s press briefing, asking her when the White House plans to shut down its Twitter account.

“When are you guys gonna delete the White House Twitter account?” Doocy asked simply.

“Why would we do that?” asked Jean-Pierre, seeking clarification that most people in her position probably wouldn’t need.

In his clarification, Doocy referred to prior skepticism expressed in press briefings about Twitter under its current CEO, Elon Musk.

“Well, you say you’re keeping an eye on Twitter because it might not be a suitable platform. So, why use it?” he asked.

The press secretary appeared to be uncomfortable – she looked away, blinked rapidly, and expresses a desire to be “very clear” without following that up with clarity.

She even invoked the president’s history of being “very, very clear” about hate speech and misinformation.

“Look, I wanna be very clear here. The president has always said, and has been very, very, uh, clear in his belief that it is important for social media platforms to continue to take steps to reduce hate speech and misinformation,” she said.

As usual, she begins her answer with “I want to be very clear here” and then blabbers stuff that isn’t at all clear.

It is rich when a president, whose own prolific hate speech against huge swaths of people who disagree with him, calls those people out for hate speech. Has a president ever done that before?

Jean-Pierre continued her unnecessarily verbose answer.

“Media platforms make independent choices about their information, uh, that they present. And so, uh, look, I don’t have anything to share on any policy or any changes that we will be making. Uh, we have multiple platforms, as you know, uh, that we utilize, uh, to communicate with the American people.”

It seems that what she was saying was that the White House will not be deleting its Twitter account just now.

Doocy was allowed a follow-up question about whether the White House would shut down Twitter over misinformation.

“When you say that you’re gonna be monitoring some of the speech on there – if you see something that you don’t like, would you try to shut Twitter down?” he asked.

The press secretary attempted to elucidate the White House policy for the Fox News correspondent.

“So look, you know, when you, when you talk about monitoring,” she began, “you know, it is uh, I-I hate to break it to you, Peter, just like everybody else, we very much monitor the news. We pay close attention to everything that you all are reporting, and Twitter is in the news a lot. And so that’s what we’re paying attention to. We’re paying attention to what is in the news and what is being reported on, uh, on the misinformation that’s out there.”

Then, as an adept way to buttress her point, Jean-Pierre brought up some of the far-left’s favorite groups and their anger towards Musk’s Twitter.

“Let’s not forget there’s groups like the NAACP, the Anti-Defamation League and the public health leaders have been very vocal about their concerns as well.”

“So, yes, we’re, uh, reading what you all are writing and looking at what you all are reporting, uh, about the misinformation that is out there,” she added.

Finally, she wrapped it up with a clear summary.

“But, you know, I would hope that all Americans, uh, including social media companies, civil rights organizations that I just laid out, including Fox as well, will agree that, uh, we need to, uh, you know, we need to, uh, to, uh, you know, call out hate speech and misinformation.”
