Portland Police Chief Bob Day grew emotional like a leftist baby while addressing the public this Friday about the shooting by immigration officials of two Tren de Aragua gang affiliates.
Instead of focusing on the fact that the two shot by immigration officials while trying to run them over on Thursday were bad people, Day delivered an impassioned, leftist screed about “victim blaming.”
“There is an association with the two folks [shot] yesterday and TDA [Tren de Aragua],” he began. “I hesitated to even share this information initially because I’m very aware of the historic injustice of victim blaming, oftentimes portrayed by law enforcement, including this very agency that I’ve represented so proudly for so many years.”
“And historically we have not been quick to disclose the potential criminal history of others. But I felt it was imperative because I was asked yesterday in the news conference what information we have. This is information we have. This in no way draws a through-line to the actions or the behaviors that occurred yesterday,” he added.

Becoming emotional, Day then spoke directly to the Latino community as if it was his obligation to apologize to them for immigration officials shooting two foreign gang members.
“I want to speak for just a moment specifically to my Latino community,” he began. “It saddens me that we even have to qualify these remarks because I understand, or at least have attempted to understand through your voices, your concern, your fear, your anger. This information in no way is meant to disparage or to condone or support or agree with any of the actions that occurred yesterday.”
“But it is important that we stay committed to the rule of law, that we stay committed to the facts, that we stay a trustworthy and legitimate police department for all of Portlanders,” he added.
Day’s behavior triggered heavy backlash online, where critics slammed him for buying into the narrative of the deranged left:

It was the left that immediately responded to the shooting Thursday by portraying the two Tren de Aragua affiliates as victims, forcing the Trump Department of Homeland Security to intervene by releasing a lengthy statement documenting the truth.
The truth, according to DHS, was that “two suspected Tren de Aragua gang associates—let loose on American streets by Joe Biden—weaponized their vehicle against Border Patrol in Portland.”
One of them, the driver of the vehicle, was “a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and suspected Tren de Aragua gang member.”
“He illegally entered the U.S. in 2022 and was RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration,” according to DHS. “Since then, he was arrested for DUI and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He has a final order of removal.”
The passenger meanwhile wwas “a criminal illegal alien from Venezuela and is associated with Tren de Aragua.”
“She illegally entered the U.S. in 2023 near El Paso, Texas, and was RELEASED into this country by the Biden administration,” DHS reported. “Since illegally entering, Contreras played an active role in a Tren de Aragua prostitution ring and was involved with a prior shooting in Portland.”
