Portnoy praises Republican presidential candidate who ‘impressed’ him: ‘I am a huge fan’

Dave Portnoy, the outspoken founder of Barstool Sports, revealed on Friday that he is a “huge fan” of  Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.

Haley, who served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations under former President Donald Trump, joined Fox News’s Sean Hannity on Thursday to voice her support for Israel in the wake of Hamas’s savage attack, and she didn’t mince words.

“What I want the American people to remember is we’ve seen the images and as horrific as they are and as heartbreaking as all of this is, we are saying right now eliminate Hamas,” Haley said.

The former South Carolina governor dismissed the notion that Israel should show the terrorist group any mercy and urged America to continue to back the Jewish nation as they “hit back” at Gaza.

“I can tell you because it happened all the time at the U.N. When they start that ground game, when Israel starts to move in to eliminate Hamas further, you’re gonna have all these other countries and you’re gonna have Americans say, ‘You need to show constraint, you need to be able to pull back,'” she predicted. “No, they need to eliminate Hamas.”

“We are supporting Israel now because they’ve been hit, but the more important part is we have to support them when they hit back as well,” Haley continued. “Don’t tell them to stop. They saw too much death. They saw too much destruction, and Hamas will do it again. We have to eliminate them regardless of how they try and intimidate us.”

Haley has taken a hard stand against Hamas from the moment they paraglided into Israel, and she has received her fair share of criticism for it.

Immediately following the attack, she stated, “This is not just an attack on Israel—this was an attack on America.”

“Finish them, [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu],” she said. “They should have hell to pay for what they have just done.”

“No, it wasn’t,” independent journalist Dr. Eoin Lenihan replied. “This Bush-era warmongering is transparent.”

“What happened in Israel is terrible and Israel will take care of it, leave it at that,” he said. “It – obviously – wasn’t an attack on America.”

But Haley’s forceful message for Hamas has resonated with Portnoy.

“Everytime @NikkiHaley speaks I become more impressed by her,” he wrote on X following her Hannity appearance. “I am a huge fan of hers and she is 100% dead on here.”

Users on X urged Portnoy to reconsider his praise.

Portnoy, however, is not alone in supporting Haley.

According to Fox News Digital, “Haley has seen a recent surge in the polls following the first two Republican debates.”

“In the latest FOX News poll released this week, Haley placed third with 10% support among primary voters behind Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis with 13% and former President Donald Trump, who maintains a commanding lead with 59%,” the outlet continued.

“The FOX News poll also shows Haley having the best advantage over President Biden in potential head-to-head matchups. Haley leads Biden by 4 points while DeSantis has a 2-point advantage over the Democrat incumbent and Trump is down 1 point against his former 2020 rival.”
