Top Democratic donors had no interest in a fundraiser earlier this year featuring Kamala Harris, with some donors expecting “plans to win elections” before opening their wallets.
That’s according to The Wall Street Journal, which reported that one donor “replied with a profanity-laced rejection.”
The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has been experiencing problems raising funds during President Donald Trump’s second term in office, according to the newspaper, and the DNC was met with widespread rejection from donors contacted about hosting the San Francisco-based fundraiser.
“The DNC reached out to big donors to host a San Francisco-area fundraiser headlined by former Vice President Kamala Harris. Most of the donors rejected the request.” https://t.co/MyfAJdLzUG

“Upon receiving the invitation, one replied with a profanity-laced rejection,” the WSJ reported. “Others said they didn’t want to give to the party until it produced substantive plans to win elections. Those who declined told the national party they had commitments and couldn’t make it work.”
A donor was reportedly found to host the event, but it “raised less than organizers had hoped.”
It certainly doesn’t help the DNC that Harris raised over $1 billion in 2024 and not only lost the election, but burned through all the cash. In fact, the campaign ended up more than $20 million in debt, which the DNC is still paying off. On a side note, the Harris campaign spent some $20 million on celebrity concerts and endorsements.
“A top official at a national Democratic group said some donors remain angry about how their money was spent in last year’s presidential election by outside groups, including on what they see as excessive salaries for Washington, D.C., consultants. The official said the party has failed to complete a public postelection investigation into what went wrong in 2024,” the WSJ noted.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on the social media platform X:
After watching her campaign blow through $1 billion with a loss to show for it, why would they want to dump money into a fundraiser that she headlines?

I’m surprised that Democrats would want to feature her so prominently.
They need to be looking forward, not backward.

So people don’t like throwing money directly into a dumpster fire any more

I mean it’s not like she lost after they gave her a billion dollars… Oh, wait. Oops.

Why win Elections when we can lose and raise money???

Interesting that USAID money dries up and at the same time Dems are having issues raising money
