Purge of military begins as Coast Guard commandant sacked over border security, DEI

President Donald Trump’s purge of those “not aligned” with goals of American greatness is already underway, including the axing of one military branch leader.

Prior to Inauguration Day, the returning executive promised shock and awe which he fulfilled with a salvo of actions combatting the woke, globalist agenda of his predecessor. Along with initial steps toward securing the border and eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion, acting Homeland Security Secretary Benjamine Huffman terminated Admiral Linda Lee Fagan as Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard.

As confirmed to Fox News by an official from the Department of Homeland Security, Fagan, 61, was said to have been terminated over an “erosion of trust” regarding border security and recruitment among other leadership issues that made DEI a priority.

Fox News detailed that “operational failures” and “leadership deficiencies” included “the failure to address borders security threats, insufficient leadership in recruitment and retention, mismanagement in acquiring key acquisitions such as icebreakers and helicopters, excessive focus on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and an ‘erosion of trust’ over the mishandling and cover-up of Operation Fouled Anchor, which was the Coast Guard’s internal investigation into sexual assault cases at the Coast Guard Academy.”

Shortly after her June 1, 2022 appointment by then-President Joe Biden, Fagan, the first woman to lead a branch of the U.S. military, appeared on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” where she boasted, “We currently have 40% women enrolled at the Coast Guard Academy. I’m really excited about the talent and the diversity I see coming — coming through the academy.”

It wasn’t until the following year that the Coast Guard disclosed the sexual assault scandal that had taken place from 2014 to 2019. Accountability was a major concern during a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing in 2024 when she was questioned about the cover-up, withholding requested documents from lawmakers, and not holding anyone accountable.

Among the executive orders signed Monday, the president decried how “The Biden Administration forced illegal and immoral discrimination programs, going by the name ‘diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), into virtually all aspects of the Federal Government, in areas ranging from airline safety to the military.”

Trump ordered an end to those radical programs and said, “Americans deserve a government committed to serving every person with equal dignity and respect, and to expending precious taxpayer resources only on making America great.”

As he froze the hiring process and implementation of new regulations until his administration could fully take charge, the president also quickly got to work clearing out holdovers from the Biden administration.

In a statement posted on social media, Trump wrote, “Our first day in the White House is not over yet! My Presidential Personnel Office is actively in the process of identifying and removing over a thousand Presidential Appointees from the previous Administration, who are not aligned with our vision to Make America Great Again.”

To that end, he dismissed José Andrés, Keisha Lance Bottoms, Brian Hook, and Mark Milley from their respective roles and declared, “YOU’RE FIRED!” as supporters cheered the dismissal of Fagan.
