Former President Donald Trump may resume outdoor campaign rallies in the near future after a new line of protection from the Secret Service is being considered.
“The U.S. Secret Service is making arrangements for former President Donald Trump to resume outdoor campaign rallies by surrounding his podium with bulletproof glass,” ABC News reported, citing multiple sources. “The measure is typically used exclusively for sitting presidents, but the Secret Service is making an exception following the first attempted assassination of a presidential candidate since George Wallace in 1972.”
Trump will speak behind bullet-proof glass at future outdoor rallies.

The attempt on Trump’s life came after a catastrophic failure by the agency tasked with protecting the 2024 Republican nominee, resulting in a 20-year-old shooter setting up on a rooftop approximately 130 yards away from where Trump was speaking with a clear line of fire.
Trump let it be known during a July 31 rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, that he would still pursue outdoor rallies due to the number of people turning out to see him.
“They’d prefer that we be in an arena. I don’t know why. But we’re not giving up the outdoor rallies,” he explained. “You know, all those people that we had to turn away today, at an outdoor rally you can have.”
Gun-grabber Shannon Watts, who teamed with billionaire Michael Bloomberg in a campaign to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights, and race-obsessed “sports journalist” Jemele Hill, who was apparently too radical for left-of-center sports network ESPN, were singing from the same hymn sheet when the responded to the story by attacking guns.
In the eyes of these virulent Trump haters, it’s not a deranged shooter and poor security at fault during the failed assassination attempt, but the gun itself.

And here I believed “thoughts and prayers” were the ultimate protection from gun violence. https://t.co/gFxF6rt6Wj

There was a mixed bag of responses seen online, with some feeling bulletproof glass would serve as a reminder that someone tried to kill Trump, while others fretted over what they saw as “bad optics.”
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
That wasn’t his choice, that’s the choice of secret service due to their gross failure. Their gross failure mind you that is no longer being talked about, and still no answers at how they botched their core assignment in Butler. Guns aren’t the issue, the criminals are…
— Wes Bransford (@WesBransford) August 18, 2024
Probably a good idea. The secret service is out doing everything from missing assignments to sneaking off to breast feed.
Well everything but literally covering the roof that’s less than 200 yards from his face.

Actually helps remind people that there was an assassination attempt.
— Earth Emperor (@Empireenjoyer11) August 16, 2024
Good, remind everyone that they tried to kill him a month ago!
— James Dunn (@hypz) August 16, 2024
Or they could just not allow a clearly visible random guy with a sniper rifle shoot him.
— Lou Rage (@lifepeptides) August 16, 2024
This isn’t an “abundance of caution.” This is the Secret Service explicitly conceding that they can’t or won’t do an adequate job of protecting him.

Terrible optics. It would be better to have no rallies at all than to appear in a bulletproof box
