According to an audio recording reportedly intercepted and posted to Ukrinform.net, a Ukrainian media website, by the Security Service of Ukraine, a Russian woman gave her husband, who is a soldier in the country’s armed forces, permission to violate and rape Ukrainian women and girls.
The clip allegedly “reflects the moral values not only of the invaders, but also of their families, 80% of whom now support the invasion of Ukraine,” according to the site.
While the audio is in Russian, a translation reported by Daily Mail reads as follows:
WIFE: “So yeah, do it over there … Ukrainian women there. Rape them, yeah. Don’t tell me anything, understand!?”
HUSBAND: “Uh-huh. So I should rape and not tell you anything.”
WIFE: “Yes, so that I wouldn’t know anything. Why do you ask?”
HUSBAND: “Can I really?”
WIFE: “Yeah, I allow you — just use protection.”
HUSBAND: “Okay.”
Rapings of Ukrainian women of all ages have been reported during the invasion by Russia. One 50-year-old woman described the horrific ordeal she suffered at the hands of a man she identified as a Russian-allied Chechen fighter.
“At gunpoint, he took me to a house nearby. He ordered me: ‘Take your clothes off or I’ll shoot you.’ He kept threatening to kill me if I didn’t do as he said. Then he started raping me. While he was raping me, four more soldiers entered. I thought that I was done for. But they took him away. I never saw him again.”
Unfortunately for her, the horrors didn’t end there, as she later reported finding her husband’s body, revealing that he had been shot in the stomach as he attempted to chase after her.
A similar report indicates that nine women and girls, some as young as 14, became pregnant after being “systematically raped” by Russian soldiers during the siege of Bucha.
A human rights ombudsman for Ukraine, Lyudmyla Denisova, noted that they are keeping track of these reported cases.
“About 25 girls and women aged 14 to 24 were systematically raped during the occupation in the basement of one house in Bucha. Nine of them are pregnant. Russian soldiers told them they would rape them to the point where they wouldn’t want sexual contact with any man, to prevent them from having Ukrainian children.”
“A 25-year-old woman called to tell us her 16-year-old sister was raped in the street in front of her. She said they were screaming ‘This will happen to every Nazi prostitute’ as they raped her sister,” she continued.
Denisova admits that it is currently “impossible” to quantify the amount of sexual assault and rape that is currently happening in Ukraine.
“It is impossible at the moment because not everyone is willing to tell us what happened to them. The majority of them currently call for psychological support, so we cannot record those as crimes unless they give us their testimony.”
