Republican pollster Frank Luntz tells liberal rag that GOP members are secretly ‘laughing’ at Trump

Republican pollster Frank Luntz recently claimed in an interview with the Daily Beast that many in the GOP are secretly mocking former President Donald Trump behind the scenes.

Alleging that the party members in question are “tired of going back and rehashing the 2020 election,” he specifically pointed to New Hampshire’s Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s comments made during an annual dinner.

“He’s f***ing crazy. I don’t think he’s so crazy that you could put him in a mental institution. But I think if he were in one, he ain’t getting out,” the governor quipped.

These comments were reportedly made during a roast-style section of the evening, but Luntz contends that they aren’t too far off from where some members of the party are actually at.

“I don’t know a single Republican who was surprised by what Sununu said. He said what they were thinking,” Luntz claimed. “They won’t say it [in public], but behind his back, they think he’s a child. They’re laughing at him.”

“Trump isn’t the same man he was a year ago,” the pollster added. “Even many Republicans are tired of going back and rehashing the 2020 election. Everybody else has moved on and in Washington, everyone believes he lost the election.”

However, Sununu made sure to reiterate that his comments were completely humorous after the fact.

“It’s all a joke. Look, I don’t think he’s crazy. It’s all a joke. It’s all in fun, it’s all a joke, and anyone who’s trying to make this to be more than it is either seriously doesn’t understand what the Gridiron dinner is all about or just has to, you know, like I said, lighten up a little bit, get a sense of humor,” he suggested.

Luntz even suggested that Sununu could have a future in politics that transcends being the governor of New Hampshire, but that is not something he has wanted in the past. He even declined Senator Mitch McConnell’s urgings to run for a Senate seat.

“I’d rather push myself 120 miles an hour delivering wins for New Hampshire than to slow down, end up on Capitol Hill debating partisan politics without results. That’s why I am going to run for a fourth term,” Sununu reportedly said.
