Seattle’s mayor has sparked outrage with her less-than-inspiring solution for retail crime.
Katie Wilson, the socialist leader of Seattle, announced that the city will be funding security for stores that are suffering from break-ins, theft and vandalism. Critics argue that throwing taxpayer money at the situation, rather than doing something to prevent it from happening, is part of the larger problem.

“Every person deserves fresh, healthy food. That’s why I’m proud to announce $1.7 million in security improvements and technical assistance for local grocery stores across our city,” she wrote in a Facebook post about the plan. “Keeping our neighborhood grocery stores safe and supported is essential to making sure every Seattleite has a reliable, affordable grocery store near them, just like the newly announced Rainier Valley Lam’s!”
“This investment will make food more accessible in more neighborhoods across Seattle, and I couldn’t be more excited to partner with local grocers to support this shared goal,” she concluded.
