Seven high-profile Republicans to appear at media event with left-wing activists

Several big-name Republicans are set to appear at a media festival for the Texas Tribune, prompting many to wonder why they will be there.

The event is for the non-profit Texas Tribune, which Daily Caller reports has received “millions of dollars from left-wing dark money groups.” These groups include The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Arnold Ventures, and the Hopewell Fund.

Republicans expected to be at the event include:

  • Texas Reps. Dan Crenshaw, Tony Gonzales, and Michael McCaul
  • Fmr Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger
  • Fmr Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney
  • Karl Rove
  • Fmr Texas Gov. Rick Perry
  • Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt
  • Fmr U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton

They will appear alongside Democrats like Stacey Abrams, Texas Rep. Colin Allred, Rep. Jasmine Crockett, Minnesota AG Keith Ellison, Sen. John Fetterman, former North Dakota Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, Jennifer Palmieri, who was the Director of Communications for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, leftist activist Kara Swisher and Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus Rep. Pramila Jayapal.

When asked by the Daily Caller why they would appear at such an event, funded by and full of people who abhor the Republican and conservative causes, some of the GOP attendants said they plan to stick up for their platform. Others didn’t respond at all.

Capital Research Center President Scott Walker sounded the alarm on these dark money groups, telling DC “There’s a reason they give money to this, and it’s to help the left.”

“This is not an entity that it gives money to outside its own cells. This is something it creates again, the Hopewell fund, both channels money onto other lefty nonprofits, but also pops into existence groups that are really just, you know, internal to itself, right?” Walker warned. “Any conservative or Republican should understand that this is very much a left-wing and, you know, overall partisan thing. There’s a reason those left-wing donors, the Arnolds, and Ford and Hopewell, there’s a reason they give money to this, and it’s to help the left, and anybody who goes should be very clear-eyed about that.”

Melissa Gates recently endorsed President Joe Biden, claiming she couldn’t “stay quiet” anymore.

“I’ve never endorsed a presidential candidate before. But this year’s election stands to be so enormously consequential for women and families that, this time, I can’t stay quiet,” the wealthy woman wrote.”Women deserve a leader who cares about the issues they face and is committed to protecting their safety, their health, their economic power, their reproductive rights, and their ability to freely and fully participate in a functioning democracy. In this election, the contrast couldn’t be greater, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. I will be voting for President Biden.”
