Slugga: A tale of two raids

Views and opinions expressed are solely those of the author.

Flaming hypocrisy is the Democrats’ stock in trade, with the latest in a multitude of examples being the shrill screeching after federal authorities raided the home of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

The Minnesota Democrat’s crib in Washington, D.C. was the site of a pre-dawn Monday morning search carried out by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) personnel and the Department of Justice in what has been described as an “ongoing federal criminal investigation.”

A walking ethics violation, the Somalia-born lawmaker has been at the center of swirling allegations of impropriety, including her potential involvement in the “industrial scale” fraud perpetrated by members of the East African hellhole’s Minneapolis diaspora.

The Monday morning raid sent Democrats into a rage as they hurled invective at President Donald J. Trump, whom they suggested had given the order to dispatch the feds just weeks before Omar is up for re-election, accusing him of abusing his power to go after a frequent critic and member of the opposing party. The president has denied that he knew anything about the raid.

“The Trump administration’s raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” declared House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and other House Democratic leaders in a statement. “For years, Donald Trump and far-right extremists have relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Omar with vile personal attacks and baseless accusations. Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family.”

House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) spewed his usual hyperbole about what he called an “assault on our constitutional values”; an “outrageous abuse of power”; part of a broader “campaign of political retribution” against a critic of the president; and “blatant political intimidation and an attempt to interfere with the Congresswoman’s reelection.”

But many of the same bad actors squealing about fascism and political reprisal were singing a much different tune in August 2022 after Joe Biden’s vicious hatchet man, Attorney General Merrick Garland, sent an armed force of federal goons on a Gestapo-style raid of Trump’s South Florida residence at Mar-a-Lago, an unprecedented move typically seen in corrupt banana republics.

There wasn’t a peep about the flagrant abuse of power by the Biden regime. In fact, the same Democrats who wailed in outrage over the Omar raid defended the abuse of power against a former president and the leader of the opposition party.

“That’s what happens when you break the law, try to steal an election, and incite a deadly insurrection,” socialist Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) said at the time. “Donald Trump should be in jail. I’m glad to see the FBI taking steps towards accountability.”

“Speaking as a citizen, we all have an interest in the rule of law … and resistance to the lawlessness that seems to be always out there,” Raskin told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski.

“No one is above the law,” Jeffries declared on social media.

Yes, Mr. Jeffries, no one – and that includes Democrats.

In fact, pretty much every single Democrat who has decried the Omar raid approved of the storming of Mar-a-Lago, a far more egregious – and un-American – abuse of power. But it was fine because it was their team wielding the police power.

And that is the very definition of hypocrisy.
