Probe of Omar reportedly has objective of booting her from the U.S.

The federal investigation of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) reportedly has the objective of deporting the “Squad” member and sending her back to Somalia.

Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) raided Omar’s Washington, D.C., home on Monday morning as part of an “ongoing federal criminal investigation,” a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed.

According to a Wednesday report from The Wall Street Journal, the probe into Omar “is aimed at building a case to strip her of her U.S. citizenship and ultimately deport her.”

“The multipronged effort is focused at least in part on how Omar obtained her citizenship after she arrived in the U.S. from Somalia decades ago. Investigators are focused both on the congresswoman and actions of her deceased father, some of the people familiar with the probe said. Nur Omar Mohamed brought his daughter and other family members to the U.S. from a refugee camp in Kenya in 1995,” the WSJ reported, citing the now-standard anonymous sources in “U.S. officials and other people familiar with the probe.”

Government officials are reportedly looking into whether the congresswoman or her father misrepresented Omar’s age on the citizenship application to show that she was 17 years old instead of 18.

It would make a big difference because, if teenage Omar was 17 at the time, she would have been granted automatic citizenship with Nur Omar Mohamed. But if Omar was actually 18, she would have needed to become naturalized separately.

To kick Omar out of the United States, she would first have to be denaturalized, and one way to do that is to prove in court that she lied to obtain citizenship.

According to an NBC News report, “Federal agents seized the phone of Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., when they searched her Washington, D.C., home this week as part of a federal investigation into potential immigration-related crimes, and they have sent roughly a dozen subpoenas out in the case, according to two people familiar with the investigation.”

In more potential trouble for the Somalia-born lawmaker, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro is probing the congresswoman’s financial disclosures, telling Fox News that her office has opened “several investigations” into the Minnesota Democrat.

Omar is predictably playing the victim.

“This raid by Trump’s DHS is an outrageous abuse of power and an unprecedented escalation in the weaponization of federal law enforcement to target political enemies,” her office said in a statement after the raid.

“For a decade, Donald Trump has relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Ilhan Omar with inflammatory rhetoric, repeatedly putting a target on her back,” the statement read. “Now, those attacks have escalated to a pointless federal raid. The Congresswoman has done nothing wrong. No president should be able to use the power of the federal government to intimidate his political enemies.”

“She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World,” Trump said in a January post to Truth Social, one of multiple times that he has suggested that Omar be sent back to her homeland.

The president denied that he had any involvement with the raid.

“Well, I understand they’re looking at her very carefully,” Trump told reporters on Monday. “I’ve always found her to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me.”

“I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ,” he added. “I have nothing to do with it.”
