‘Smug condescension’ oozes from KJP when asked about Marianne Williamson’s run against Biden

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre brushed off any concerns about self-help guru Marianne Williamson challenging President Joe Biden in the 2024 Democratic presidential primary, cracking a joke about the spiritual advisor’s “aura” when asked by a reporter if Biden was “annoyed [or] frustrated.”

The diversity hire responded by saying she is not tracking Williamson’s presidential bid, which she made official on Saturday — this being her second run, having run in 2020.

“Just not tracking that. I mean, if I had a … crystal ball, then I can tell you … If I can feel her aura … I just don’t have anything to share on that,” Jean-Pierre replied, getting a hearty laugh from some in the press room.

Speaking of crystal balls, former MSNBC talking head Krystal Ball responded to the clip with a refreshing bit of candor, taking note of the “smug condescension” on display while claiming KJP was “smearing” Williamson for her religion.

“I would submit that the attitude of smug condescension on display here is part of why the media and this white house have lost the trust of the American people,” she tweeted. “They are smearing a woman for her religion and cackling at everyone who would like an option other than Biden in 2024.”

Disdain for Williamson being a common theme from the media, as seen in The Hill: “Her candidacy has been met so far with radio silence within the White House and the Democratic National Committee, along with eye-rolls among political strategists.”

The story made for some interesting online comments across the spectrum with a reminder that, in addition to winning a race, raising important issues can also be a factor.
