While the political indictment of Donald Trump, the most persecuted man in modern American history, dominated the news cycle late Thursday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy held a press conference earlier in the day and commented on President Biden’s refusal to sit down with the Republican-led House to negotiate the debt ceiling.
Tongue-in-cheek, the GOP leader even offered to bring “soft food” to entice the feeble, 80-year-old Democratic president to the table.
“We have asked to sit down with the president for months. He is making the decision that he wants to put the economy in jeopardy,” McCarthy said.
“I don’t know what more I can do,” he added. “I would bring the lunch to the White House. I would make it soft food if that’s what he wants. It doesn’t matter.”

Of course, politicians from both parties have been playing games with the debt ceiling for decades now with the only consistency being that it continues to rise — more rapidly over the past 20 years than ever before.
The national debt stands at $31.6 trillion, a whopping increase of $20 trillion in just 14 years — the figure stood at $10.6 trillion when Barack Obama took office in Jan. 2009.
In January, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen informed Congress the country had reached its borrowing limit, explaining that “extraordinary measures” could be employed to continue paying the nation’s bills but that this effort would likely be exhausted sometime this summer.
McCarthy met with Biden on Feb. 1 and while both agreed the discussion was productive, there has been no progress since. The president wants Republicans to produce a budget to see what spending cuts they plan to pursue — which will then be politicized.

The speaker told reporters Thursday that the GOP-led House may move its own bill, suggesting that he is close to an agreement with his caucus.
“If the president doesn’t act, we will,” McCarthy said.
Social media users certainly know how to get Biden to the table… here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
Chocolate chip ice cream apparently helps

Mr. Speaker, if you tell Biden the soft food on the menu will include chocolate chip ice cream, you can have lunch over there every day.

Tell him you have a check from Ukraine or China with this name on it! 10% for the big guy!

I would skip Biden and just meet with Soros and Obama since they are the real Presidents

I hear he likes Jeni’s ice cream. Chocolate chip, if I recall from his comedy routine in advance of comments on a mass school shooting this week.
