‘So, I did ask you to hit me?’ Call between ex-MLB Dodgers pitcher, accuser released

A recorded conversation between a defamed former MLB All-Star pitcher and his accuser was released, definitively answering the question, “So, I did ask you to hit me?”

Within days of journeyman Cy Young winner Trevor Bauer earning the freedom to “finally talk about this” after coming to a settlement with Lindsey Hill, further proof that existed from the onset of his sexual assault allegations was made public regarding the one-time Los Angeles Dodgers starter.

In a 27-minute call from May 22, 2021 “covertly recorded by police,” days after the pair were said to have engaged in “consensual rough sex,” Hill could be heard attempting to get Bauer to corroborate the claims she had made to authorities only to have the player, evidently sympathetic to her pain and genuinely concerned for her well-being, repeatedly assert the frequency with which she affirmed that he proceed with “what we had talked about.”

The recording, provided to Legal Affairs and Trials by Hill, began with her asking about a then-recent game against the San Francisco Giants before she spoke to her “tough time” and that she had a follow-up appointment related to injuries attributed to their sexual encounter.

“I know you asked me to hit you and we had a safe word and all this different stuff,” Bauer said as they both expressed confusion at the extent of her reported bruising that included “two black eyes and a swollen jaw.” Offering to help in “any way” he made clear, “I would never do that to you outside of what we had talked about. Do you know that?”

“Yeah, I do,” she affirmed before describing the incident as “blurry” because she claimed to be “coming in and out of consciousness.”

“So, I did ask you to hit me?” asked Hill.

“Yeah,” replied Bauer who later added, “I tried telling you multiple times, ‘Do you want to stop? Are you OK?’ And you said to keep going. So, I just was trying to follow your lead on it. That was never the point of it.”

On Monday, Bauer released a video to social media that included messages suggesting Hill had been plotting to set him up and that after a settlement where neither party was expected to pay the other, “today I’m happy to be moving on with my life.”

Another claim made during the recorded call had Hill alleging the player had left her genital area “black and blue” from his punching her there, “because I was in like so much pain when you were like hitting the top of like my literal, like, my vag.”

“We talked about, like, how you kind of, how you felt like going out and like coming back, and you had said that you want to do it again because you felt good. Like it made you feel good.” Bauer said on the call repeating his defense that, “I’ll never cross boundaries with you.”

According to Legal Affairs and Trials, the call had been reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office prompting them to decline pursuit of criminal charges. A statement from his attorneys regarding the call read in part, “Trevor Bauer and Lindsey Hill had consensual rough sex and the pretext call confirms that his version of events — the truth — never wavered, despite her attempts to get him to admit what she told the police.”

Asserting that “there was consensual slapping at her request” and that “he never punched Ms. Hill,” the release went on to state, “If Mr. Bauer had committed the acts alleged and this call was the smoking gun Ms. Hill hoped it would be, the Pasadena Police Department — who coordinated the call — would have arrested him. They didn’t view this recorded call as probable cause for an arrest, or consider it to be evidence that Mr. Bauer admitted to what Ms. Hill accused him of. Rather, it was further evidence that Ms. Hill’s allegations were not credible.”
