Socialism sounds great — until liberal voter gets one question she hadn’t considered

Stunning admission showed that an uptick in favorability for socialism did not include an uptick in understanding of how it “just impoverishes.”

Where once leftward shifts down the slippery slope came as little more than nudges, to use the language of the Obama administration’s Cass Sunstein, today’s Democratic Party has been taking leaps and bounds directly off the cliff to socialism. As recent polling showed an uptick in favorable views for the ideology, interviews with people in Portland, Maine, showed a disconnect on what happens to personal property.

In a report for Fox News Digital, Paul Steinhauser shared how a Fox News national poll showed 32% of voters holding a favorable view of socialism compared to 64% unfavorable. Capitalism’s split was 51%-46%.

As one U.S. Navy veteran told the outlet, he believes socialism is good because it “looks out for people’s needs … and it’s not communism.”

When pressed on how people would lose personal property to a controlling entity, the man admitted, “I guess, I hadn’t really thought about socialism that way. I think about taking care of the needs of people, you know, things like national health care, things like that.”

“I don’t like government taking things away from you,” he added.

The retired service member wasn’t alone in stumbling over the realities of the radical ideology as an individual who recently moved to Portland resorted to talking points in promoting wealth redistribution.

“There’s a lot of wealth imbalance in America right now, and we could benefit from some sort of leveling system,” he said before insisting socialism helps “people who aren’t as, you know, benefiting in society.”

From there, he attempted to delineate between small businesses and big corporations, telling Fox News Digital, “But there are a lot of really high-end corporations that benefit so much, that really don’t need that much wealth. There’s so much exorbitant wealth at the top end that a lot of that could trickle down to people who are disadvantaged and don’t have homes.”

Along with the Fox News poll, a Gallup poll conducted in September showed favor for capitalism was on the decline — dropping five points while unfavorable opinions climbed eight — and socialism reached a new high with an inverse in movement that put favorable views at 43% to 53% unfavorable.

Even if businesses were taken over, the daughter of a small business owner remained completely in favor of socialism, contending, “I’ve seen how tough it is to run a small business in this country and how easy it is for corporations to just do whatever they want.”

“So if we gave actually back to small businesses and the government helped them out … and so much of the market that’s privatized actually became public, I think with how big the U.S. has gotten, it’s only a good thing,” she went on.

As previously reported, amid the myriad wins for Democratic Socialists of America candidates across the country, Fox News host Will Cain concluded, “some young folks on the right are considering socialism as a shortcut to the American dream.”

Meanwhile, as the indoctrination of the university system was coupled with an upended economic system that, under leftist leaders, sought to pick winners and losers through diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, Ted, a man with perspective, spoke to the track record of the “horrible idea” that is socialism.

“If we can learn from history, anything from history, we see that it’s gonna really give way too much power to the government institution. It’s gonna … make things that are harmful overall for everyone … it’s like it’s dictatorship,” he told Fox News Digital. “… socialism just impoverishes. Capitalism, the free market economy, is a good thing.”
