The president’s safety became an issue once more after a “suspicious phone call” with a serious implication that justified disrupting travelers.

As the final stretch to the midterm elections is underway, President Donald Trump’s loaded schedule includes rallies in a different state for each of the upcoming days. Adding to the logistical heavy lifting, departure from West Palm Beach, Florida’s President Donald J. Trump International Airport became a temporary issue for all travelers Sunday when an alleged bomb threat triggered an investigation.
According to the airport, hours before Trump ultimately left the Sunshine State to head back to Washington, D.C., “Law enforcement is investigating a suspicious phone call. As a precaution, PBSO has slowed traffic entering the terminal. Travelers may experience delays. If you see something, say something. Report suspicious activity to law enforcement. Thanks for your patience & cooperation.”

According to a report from the Daily Mail, it was relayed that airport law enforcement “had no further details on the incident but said officials were investigating an incident around the airport.”
In her own report on the incident, WPTV’s Zitali Solache described that a “bomb threat near Donald J. Trump International Airport” [emphasis added] was what caused the investigation, seeming to suggest the call was not related to the president’s travel to and from the airport.
Little more than an hour after the investigation was said to be underway, the airport went on to announce, “Roadways to the terminal have reopened. Airport operations have returned to normal. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

“Any time he’s coming in town, traffic is lockdown,” a local resident told WPTV. “We’ve seen cops, sheriffs, Palm Beach sheriffs all around the whole entire airport.”
“If he’s coming through, they’ll lock it all down and you’re stuck in traffic for at least an hour,” he added.
Over the weekend, the president’s schedule found him traveling to and from the airport multiple times as the White House marked the first time that Air Force One landed in Palm Beach County since the airport was renamed in Trump’s honor.

In addition to the tragedy at a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania and subsequent attempts at assassination since — such as the suspect charged for his alleged attempt on Trump’s life at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner — a threat in Turkey following the president’s attendance at the NATO summit was cause for a covert plane swap.
It had been reported that Trump’s security detail managed to relocate the commander-in-chief to an aircraft other than Air Force One while, to the chagrin of some, corporate media members and traveling White House staff were left aboard as a decoy.
In defense of the decoy, then-acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald L. Rowe Jr. reminded, “We need to keep the ‘secret’ in Secret Service. The public should know what the president is doing on a daily basis, but when it comes to the methods by which the Secret Service keeps the president safe, that should remain out of public view.”
