President Donald Trump is weighing in on the situation in Mexico, fresh off the capture of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro.
Speaking to Fox News about the strikes in Venezuela, Trump’s attention eventually turned to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. While he said the action was not meant as a message to the foreign leader, he claimed that Sheinbaum is not really the person in charge of Mexico.

“Well, it wasn’t meant to be and we’re very friendly with [Sheinbaum], she’s a good woman, but the cartels are running Mexico,” the president said. “She’s not running Mexico, the cartels are running Mexico. And we can be politically correct and be nice and say ‘Oh yes, she is.’ No, she’s very frightened of the cartels, they’re running Mexico.”
“And I’ve asked her numerous times, would you like us to take out the cartels? ‘No no no, Mr. President. No no no, please.’ So we have to do something because we lost, the real number is 300,000 people in my opinion. They say 100,000, 100,000 is a lot of people, but the real number is 300,000 people. And we lost them to drugs, and they come in through the southern border, mostly the southern border. Plenty come in through Canada too, by the way, in case you don’t know. But they come in through the southern border, and something’s going to have to be done with Mexico.”

Hopefully Mexico sees this and steps up efforts against the cartels.

As BizPac Review reported in November, Sheinbaum has made it clear that she doesn’t need the United States to help get a handle on the cartel problem.
“He has suggested it on various occasions, or he has said, ‘we offer you a United States military intervention in Mexico, whatever you need to fight the criminal groups,’” stated Sheinbaum, who went on to add, “But I have told him on every occasion that we can collaborate, that they can help us with information they have, but that we operate in our territory, that we do not accept any intervention by a foreign government.”
