‘State-sponsored racial discrimination’: James Golden denounces MN district laying off white teachers first

A Minnesota school district’s contract that specifically places white teachers on the chopping block ahead of their minority counterparts recently made headlines and James Golden, aka “Bo Snerdley,” producer, call screener and long-time friend of the late great Rush Limbaugh, had a few choice comments about the blatant “state-sponsored racial discrimination.”

Golden, himself the host of “Bo Snerdley’s Rush Hour,” joined GB News host and former member of European Parliament Nigel Farage and explained what the contract boils down to.

“What the teachers union is saying, that proposes this absurd contract, is that this is supposed to be the remedy for past discrimination,” he said, “that in the past they discriminated against teachers of color or people who applied for the jobs.”

“And therefore, people of color are unrepresented in the school system,” Golden continued.

Farage had framed the contract between the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers and Minneapolis Public Schools, saying: “Two years on from George Floyd…Minneapolis public school teachers of color will have additional job protections this upcoming school year under a contract. That means they would keep their jobs rather than white instructors with more seniority. This seems, to me, to be racism against white teachers.”

“Is this what we really want the outcome of the George Floyd murder…do we actually believe this is gonna bring societies back closer together?” he argued, “Because I don’t think it will do that.”

“This they see is the remedy,” Golden went on to say. “So, in their layoffs, the white teachers will be laid off first regardless of seniority. Obviously, it’s absurd.”

“Obviously by signing onto this contract the state has now endorsed state-sponsored racial discrimination,” he further argued.

As previously reported, the contract was agreed upon in the spring as part of a deal to end a two-week teachers’ strike and it specifically stated, “if excessing a teacher who is a member of a population underrepresented among licensed teachers in the site, the district shall excess the next least senior teacher, who is not a member of an underrepresented population.”

“If there were a problem that could be proven in the past, there would’ve been no problem had the Minneapolis teacher’s union and the school got together and said we’re going to find those people that we harmed and we’re going to make them whole,” Golden contended. “But to do this sort of blanket racist approach is absolutely absurd and you’re right, it’s only going to inflame tensions and it is only going to create more divisions over something at a time where people should be trying to figure out how they can narrow the divisions instead of widening them.”

In response to the broad criticisms that the contract received, a school district official defended the agreement but did not counter the argument, saying, “To remedy the continuing effects of past discrimination, Minneapolis Public Schools and the Minneapolis Federation of Teachers mutually agreed to contract language that aims to support the recruitment and retention of teachers from underrepresented groups as compared to the labor market and to the community served by the school district.”

Presently, more than 60 percent of students in the district were reported to be “students of color,” according to the Star Tribune, whereas, “about 16% of the district’s tenured teachers and 27% of its probationary teachers are people of color.”
