State urges replacement of terms ‘son’ and ‘daughter’ in schools

One state is encouraging the use of gender-neutral, “inclusive” language in schools and people aren’t happy.

Vermont Department of Health advised that schools drop gendered terms such as “son” and “daughter” in favor of “child” or “kid” and to replace “household members” with “family members” instead. They said that not all families live under the same roof, as parents may be divorced or incarcerated. It is also recommended to trim down “extended family” to just “family” since many people find “grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins” to be an equal part of their “core family unit.”

The Danbury Institute posted about the suggested changes on X, saying Christians must “stand for truth.”

“The Vermont Department of Health says to stop using the terms ‘son’ and ‘daughter’ in order to be more inclusive. This erosion of the meaning of words and the dismantling of family as the building block of society is wrong. Christians must stand for truth and not give in on these issues,” they wrote, along with a screengrab of the department’s Instagram post.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Virginia Department of Health, who said the guidelines were “intended to encourage using inclusive language when you don’t know someone’s family situation.”

Fox also reports that they have reviewed the state departments’ “health equity glossary” and say it “defines gender as ‘social, psychological, and/or emotional traits, often influenced by societal expectations, that classify someone as man, woman, a mixture of both, or neither’ and says it is ‘socially constructed.'”

Also included in the glossary is the definition of “internalized racism” which they describe as a “set of private beliefs, prejudices, and ideas that individuals have about the superiority of whites and the inferiority of people of color.”
