Another university student in Texas had a crash course in consequences this week after his “disturbing video” disrupting a Charlie Kirk memorial caught the attention of the governor.
Since the young husband and father was assassinated, many have commented on the seemingly prophetic title of his organization, Turning Point USA. Not only have there been mass gatherings of prayer and shows of unity around the country, but the concept of coexisting with those who would espouse evil has been cast away, with many reports of terminations and, now, the expulsion of a student at Texas State University filmed acting out Kirk’s assassination at a memorial.
Video from the Monday event near the Fighting Stallions statue on the San Marcos campus of TXST went viral, showing the student mocking Kirk’s supporters at the local TPUSA chapter gathering, slapping his neck and pretending to writhe before climbing up on the statue, slapping his neck again, and falling down as though he were dead.
Reacting to the video that concluded with the student spitting as he walked away and saying, “F*ck that n*****, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) called out the university, “Hey, Texas State. This conduct is not accepted at our schools. Expel this student immediately. Mocking assassination must have consequences.”
Before the day was through, the Lone Star State governor had an update and reported, “That student is now expelled.”

Under scrutiny from the state capital, TXST President Dr. Kelly Damphousse released his own statement in the wake of the incident and asserted, “I am aware of the disturbing video that was taken at an event on our San Marcos campus on Monday. I have directed university officials to take immediate steps to identify the individual in the video. Behavior that trivializes or promotes violence is reprehensible and violates the values of TXST. It will not be tolerated. If this individual is found to be affiliated with TXST, appropriate action will be taken. Let me be clear: expressions that glorify violence or murder have no place on our campuses.”
By Tuesday evening, he reported that the student had been identified and no longer had a place at the school, “I will not tolerate behavior that mocks, trivializes, or promotes violence on our campuses. It is antithetical to our TXST values. The individual is no longer a student at TXST.”
TXST has identified the student in the disturbing video from Monday’s event. The individual is no longer a student at TXST. Federal law prevents the university from commenting on individual student conduct matters.

Damphousse went on to note that federal law prohibited him from further comment regarding individual students before pushing back on suggestions that the behavior was indicative of a broader sentiment on campus, “The actions of one person do not reflect our entire community or the individuals in it.”
Tuesday’s expulsion followed the arrest and expulsion of a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock whose aggressive disruption of a similar event was said to have started with shouting and mockery before allegedly leading to shoving, resulting in charges of assault, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
