Craving credit, a nearly $4 billion investment was overshadowed Tuesday when a governor was called out for “throwing a tantrum,” allegedly making the deal “about himself.”
From his time in Sacramento to the Oval Office, President Ronald Reagan famously kept a plaque on his desk that read, “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.” Evidently, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) does not live by the same expression as a Baltimore shipyard announcement devolved into political barbs against President Donald Trump.
Speaking with reporters about the $3.7 billion investment from Anduril to build nuclear-powered submarine components, Moore asserted that he was skipping the event after the White House prohibited him from speaking, adding, “… we have been working with them for over a year to bring them on board, and we’re excited about what it’s going to mean to the area.”
“But if the president of the United States wants to bring the circus into town and tell me that I’m not allowed to speak to the fact that we were the ones to help bring the deal, then I will let the circus be conducted while I go back to the work of the people of Maryland,” he went on the same day he released a video touting his own role in “one of the many record-breaking deals that are growing in our state.”
Gov. Wes Moore was expected to join President Donald Trump at Sparrows Point on Tuesday to tout Anduril Industries’ planned $3.7 billion submarine manufacturing facility. Instead, Moore says he won’t be attending after being told he wouldn’t have a speaking role.

The governor got a boost for his message from CNN as he appeared on “The Source” with Kaitlan Collins as he told her, “And so, in the final day, the president decided to give a speech and take the credit, which is pretty par for the course where you don’t do the work, but you get all the credit. That is the Trump way.”

Responding to Moore’s statement, a White House official told the media, “It’s unfortunate that the Governor is now making a multi-billion-dollar announcement about himself by throwing a tantrum over an announcement that will bring sorely needed jobs back to his state thanks to President Trump.”
The official also expressed, “President Trump is willing to work with anyone to revitalize our manufacturing sector, which is why the White House graciously invited Governor Moore to attend today’s event as a guest.”
To that, the governor responded, “We are really proud of what has happened when it comes to economic growth and development in our state,” and went on to contend, “So, I don’t need the president’s attaboy for the job that we are doing because I am not here because of the president of the United States.”
During the announcement, Anduril’s CEO Brian Schimpf didn’t pick sides as he said, “Gov. Moore, County Executive Klausmeir, the federal congressional delegation, as well as state and local leaders throughout Maryland have all moved with urgency to help bring industrial investment at this scale to Baltimore County.”
“They’ve also worked closely with us across the many requirements necessary to make this investment come to fruition,” added the co-founder.
Along with the $3.7 billion from Anduril, a federal contract for roughly $2.9 billion brings the total investment over $6 billion to, as the White House put it, “create tens of thousands of jobs, drive billions in economic output, and restore America’s maritime dominance.”
ARSENAL-TWO: Anduril will invest over $3.7B, combined with a $2.9B federal contract, for the next generation of American submarines.
This project will create tens of thousands of jobs, drive billions in economic output, and restore America’s maritime dominance. 🇺🇸🚢 https://t.co/TnYztkOPp9
