As part of a courtroom settlement with Texas, the Texas Children’s Hospital must launch America’s first-ever detransition clinic within three months.
In addition, the clinic must offer detransition services for free for five years, and the hospital must pay Texas a whopping $10 million, according to the settlement agreement that was publicly released this week by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The settlement agreement was first announced in May.
“Today is a monumental day in the fight to stop the radical transgender movement,” Paxton said at the time. “I applaud Texas Children’s Hospital for changing course and committing to being a part of the solution by agreeing to form a first-of-its kind Detransition Clinic that will help provide free care to those who have been victimized by twisted, morally bankrupt transgender ideology.”
The settlement stems from the hospital’s decision to fire Christian nurse Vanessa Sivadge after she exposed the hospital’s sex-change program for kids.
She came forward after investigative journalist Christopher Rufo published a bombshell report in May 2023 containing leaked documents from surgeon Eithan Haim proving the hospital was offering sex-change treatments to kids.
In her own bombshell allegations to Rufo, Sivadge said the hospital was offering puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and related interventions.
Moreover, she offered proof that, despite Texas Medicaid rules that generally do not cover such services, the hospital was submitting claims using false diagnosis codes to obtain payment from Medicaid and related programs.
“Beginning in 2021, Sivadge saw a dramatic rise in the number of ‘transgender children’ treated at the hospital,” Rufo wrote after speaking with her. “These patients struggled with various problems: depression, anxiety, addiction, suicide attempts, physical abuse, and discomfort with puberty.”
“But rather than deal with these underlying psychological conditions, Sivadge says, doctors at the hospital would diagnose them with ‘gender dysphoria’ and assign them to a regimen of ‘gender-affirming care,'” his report continued.
She was fired soon after the report broke:

Meanwhile, while Paxton had already started investigating the hospital in 2023 courtesy of Haim’s allegations, his investigation expanded to the next stage when Sivadge spoke up the following year.
The investigation eventually led to the courtroom settlement that was finalized in May and then formally published this week.
“This historic settlement is a resounding defeat for the radical gender ideology that has preyed on Texas children under the guise of ‘care,'” Paxton said in a new statement. “Texas Children’s has agreed to pay millions back to Texas.”
“The detransition clinic, which is the first of its kind, must open within months. Activist doctors who harmed children have been fired,” he added. “This settlement sends an unmistakable message: if you put radical ideology over children’s health, my office will go after you.”
“This is a story of redemption. Of true justice,” Sivadge wrote in her own statement, this one made to social media. “The hospital who once sanctioned the harming of children is now setting the standard for their help and healing, at zero cost.”
“It’s a story that only God could write, and I am so humbled and honored to have played a very small role in what will become a center for hope for countless detransitioners who have nowhere to turn to for their ongoing care. This victory is as much theirs as it is mine,” she added.
