The honeymoon is over: NYC residents turning on Mamdani as problems plague city

It looks like the honeymoon is over in New York City as residents unload on Mayor Zohran Mamdani over piles of garbage and unplowed snow.

While the socialist mayor declared things couldn’t be better, New Yorkers are vocally ripping him over the neglected streets and deplorable conditions, especially in the wake of a winter storm.

“I’m new to the job. I know the burdens will get heavier, but right now I struggle to imagine how it could be better,” Mamdani reportedly said in a speech, according to the New York Post.

But his optimistic outlook as the city faces a $12 billion budget deficit and 14 people have died from the icy temperatures in the Big Apple earned Mamdani a truckload of backlash.

Actor Michael Rapaport and actress Debra Messing did not support Mamdani’s mayoral race and reacted on social media to the state of the city after Winter Storm Fern.

“The streets are a disaster. It hasn’t snowed in 5 days and the streets still haven’t been cleared,” Messing posted, noting that in her 15 years living in NYC, “this has never happened.”

Rapaport was not so polite in his post, unloading in a profanity-filled video as he documented the dirty snowbanks and piles of garbage.

Other videos documented the “buyer’s remorse” over Mamdani’s election.

“We voted for you, Zohran. We advocated for you, Zohran. We advocated for you,” protesters shouted outside the mayor’s residence at Gracie Mansion. “You lied, Zohran. Shame, Zohran!”

Meanwhile, the area around Mamdani’s East 88th Street home was “squeaky clean,” according to the New York Post.

“I couldn’t believe it when I saw yesterday — a whole army of sanitation workers plowing and shoveling every bit of snow off of that side of the street,” local resident Nick Rivers told the paper.

“Clean as a whistle for the mayor,” he said. “Look at this side.”
