The judge confronts Gutfeld over actor’s biker brawl: ‘HE THREW THE FIRST PUNCH!’

Tuesday on “The Five,” co-host Greg Gutfeld and Jeanine Pirro were at odds over whether or not “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Ian Ziering was in the right for throwing hands with a gang of mini-bike riders near the Hollywood Walk of Fame. After airing the viral New Year’s Eve altercation, Gutfeld spoke to the broader symbolism at play in the actor’s confrontation.

“To borrow a phrase from a friend, ‘Dad’s home.’ This is the perfect analogy, an encapsulation of a country of men finally hitting their limits, right?” contended the late-night host who addressed the fact that Ziering’s young daughter was in the car at the time of the incident. “There’s no politics in self-defense, right? Only your right to protect your daughter or your son.”

After suggesting Bud Light sign the actor for a promotion, Gutfeld went on to say, “This should be an inspiration to everybody in the new year. That dude is in his sixth decade, and even though he was running, he was swatting these little brats away like they were flies.”

Pirro vehemently disagreed with the take and argued Ziering had been in the wrong for his actions after an alleged traffic incident had carried on into a physical fight.

“Anybody who commits a crime where it’s five-on-one, it’s a gang assault, they go to jail, okay? But let’s pull the veil back a little bit. Who got out of the car? He got out of the car. He left his 10-year-old daughter in the car, alright? What did he do when he got out of the car? He punched the biker. What did he do when he got out? He knocked the biker off the bike,” she rattled off.

“This guy is the guy who assaulted them first and his statements are so legally vetted it’s not funny…He not only threw the first punch,” asserted Pirro, “they were on their bikes when he was out of the car punching them, and he literally knocked a guy off the bike.”

“Now let me tell you, I’m a prosecutor at heart. Everybody, as far as I’m concerned, [who] violates the law goes to jail. This guy says he got out to assess the damage to his car. He had no damage to his car,” the co-host continued to argue. “If he’s worried about his daughter, stay in the car. If you are worried about you daughter, you don’t get out and start a fist fight with people on bikes and then run across the street while she’s alone in the car!”

To Pirro’s claim, additional video of the incident obtained by TMZ showed that after the initial melee that had Ziering dashing across the street to shake off the numerous combatants, one of the bikers could be seen smashing their helmet down on to the windshield of the actor’s Mercedes-Benz.

In his own statement on social media published Tuesday, Ziering said in part, “I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace.”

He had presented the details of the incident by stating, “While stuck in traffic, my car was approached aggressively by one of these riders leading to an unsettling confrontation. In an attempt to assess any damage to I exited my car. This action, unfortunately, escalated into a physical altercation, which I navigated to protect myself.”

Ziering ultimately asserted, “This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior.”

Gutfeld would not relent in his defense of the actor as he said, “He drew them away from the car, he’s a hero. No, he is!,” he added as Pirro laughed. “He is. He understood there was a threat.”

“All he had to do was lock the doors,” she replied earning Gutfeld’s retort, “No. That’s cowardly”

“He threw the first punch, he knocked them off the bike,” Pirro said again concluding her argument before, like Ziering, co-host Dana Perino spoke to the broader issue at hand that criminality has been on the rise because of a “knowledge that they can get away with everything ’cause no one’s getting prosecuted for anything.”
