TIPP: Partisan media will fail to deliver midterms to Democrats

With 74 days left to go for the midterms, Americans are being bombarded by political advertising on local TV. Going back to the black-and-white Willie Horton ads of 1988, the messaging is the same: I am good for you – the other candidate is dreadful and dangerous.

After decades of more of the same, Americans are tired of this dichotomy. It is little wonder that fliers and pamphlets that land in mailboxes are promptly discarded into recycled bins.

But during the last three election cycles to 2018, corporate media, helped by an aggressive deep state, has injected its daily dose of political campaigning to promote the Left shamelessly. In what amounts to billions of dollars of free advertising for the Democrats, the media endlessly serves the Left’s wishes by falsely reporting on the Democrats’ achievements and incessantly covering profoundly negative stories about former President Trump and his allies.

The objectivity that the American Fourth Estate was internationally renowned for and to which people could turn to, to reliably cover both sides critically and hold those in power accountable is all gone. In a massive global Digital News Report, based on a survey of six continents and 46 major media markets by the Reuters Institute and Oxford University, the U.S. stood out as the lowest among all nations surveyed. Our TIPP Poll tracks the low trust in the media every month.

Americans now only have themselves and their daily experiences to help guide them about current events because the media refuses to do its job with its overtly partisan agenda. A trip to the grocery store tells Americans how remarkably pricey everything has become. In the land of plenty, local car rental companies can only deliver a rental car 7-10 days after accepting reservations – a glaring example of supply chain issues as a global automobile shortage forces rental car companies from replenishing their lots. Labor is in short supply everywhere as customer service levels sink to new lows in all industries.

At the Fed’s summer retreat in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Chairman Jerome Powell alluded to real problems Americans face. He warned that inflation remains a significant concern for the country. “While higher interest rates, slower growth, and softer labor market conditions will bring down inflation, they will also bring some pain to households and businesses.” And in the most ominous sign that the Fed is not done with belt-tightening, he said that “the current level of interest rates is not a place to stop or pause.” The Dow closed down 1,000 points for the day. The stock market is a far better mirror of America than the media because the underlying fundamentals are real.

Yet, the corporate media establishment vigorously celebrated President Biden’s signing of the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, a misnomer of epic proportions. The legislation calls for $437 billion in “investments” without once using the word spending. When the Fed is feverishly mopping up the excess money in the economy, wouldn’t additional spending worsen the situation? Of course, it would. But declaring it so, or actively debating it as inflationary, would hurt the Democrats – so the media has continued to stick to the Left’s talking points.

When President Biden announced his nearly $300 billion student loan forgiveness plan – sure to be challenged in the courts – the media again celebrated it as a campaign promise delivered. Even Democrats running in swing districts noted that the $125,000 income cap was extraordinarily high. The fear is that students, whose loan repayments have already been frozen for over two years now, will go on a spending spree when everything is scarce. Few media outlets criticized the White House, with most repeating press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s absurd comments that many people benefited from far more generous PPP loan forgiveness programs during the pandemic.

The Left has deliberately skewed the abortion debate to help the Democrats. We noted that Kansas voters followed the direction of the U.S. Supreme Court. Still, corporate media continued with the narrative that the Dobbs decision to take away abortion rights was restored in relatively red Kansas.

The media has relentlessly covered the raid on Trump’s Mar-A-Lago resort, relying on unverified leaks from the DOJ, using bombastic names such as the Espionage Act, implying that Trump committed treason. As TIPP noted, the raid’s timing was highly suspicious, coming fewer than 90 days before a crucial election. We pointed out that the administration launched a new Russia-Russia-Russia-type investigation in which information could leak drip by drip endlessly. Nothing needs to be proved; things only need to be out there to sow sufficient doubt that Trump is a vile actor. There’s nothing like a slow-cycle news day, either. If things are slow, write up another devastating Trump piece based on the raid documents.

When the primaries started, the media parlor game was to track a record of Trump’s endorsements. [We don’t remember the media keeping score of President Obama’s or Clinton’s endorsements]. If Trump’s candidates failed, or so the narrative went, the media’s long-cherished hope that Trump has been sidelined within the GOP would write itself. But when over 92% of Trump’s endorsements won, they began reporting that the Trump candidates are extreme and will likely lose in the general election.

Americans see things differently. In President Biden, they observe an inept leader presiding over the country’s worst times in over 40 years. The war just entered its seventh month; an invasion has occurred at the southern border; crime is rampant; inflation is crippling American families, many of whom continue to descend on food pantries. Many long for the prosperous times during the Trump presidency, without the daily drama of the former president’s White House.

We are confident that the partisan media’s efforts to deliver the midterms to the Democrats will fail. And we only need to look at Rep. Liz Cheney’s case to conclude thus.

Nancy Pelosi awarded Liz Cheney’s loyalty by letting the J6 committee hold wall-to-wall summer primetime hearings, professionally produced at taxpayer expense, where Cheney would appear regally as Vice Chairman. Cheney was facing a tough primary challenge in Wyoming, so the hearings directly fed the friendly media outlet accounts that projected Cheney’s brave leadership as the sole savior of America’s Constitution and the Republican slayer of the 45th president. Cheney was even cast as being just 15-20 points down in poorly-polled Wyoming, not an insurmountable deficit if Democrats switched their votes in the all-party primary.

Cheney lost by historic margins, by more than 37 points. Aaron Blake of the Washington Post, a staunchly pro-Cheney newspaper, said: “In fact, depending upon how you slice the numbers, it might be the biggest incumbent primary loss of the 21st century.”

The drive-by media is attempting to divert attention away from Americans’ daily struggles to make ends meet. It employs distractions such as Trump coverage. Americans can tell the difference between reality and the media’s manipulations. The cavalry is coming in November, and the media can’t stop it.
