A Mexican grocery store manager saved a female toddler from certain death after she ran out into the middle of a busy road.
CCTV surveillance footage from Super King El Rey del Ahorro, a grocery store in Puebla, showed the young girl rushing into traffic as a man and woman — possibly her parents? — tried chasing after her.
The woman slipped, falling to the ground. The man, meanwhile, was running a few seconds behind and arrived on scene at the last minute.
Meanwhile, store manager Luis Cruz, who’d been operating a forklift outside the store, rushed straight into traffic after the girl, managing to scoop her up seconds before a car pummeled into her.

According to the Daily Mail, Cruz has since been named “Manager of the Year” and awarded 20,000 Mexican pesos, which is worth about $1,200.
The grocery store published a post to the social media site Instagram praising Cruz in Spanish.
“Even though it wasn’t your responsibility, even though it wasn’t your obligation to pay attention, and even though you may never get the thanks you deserve… You always prove that you are someone who is aware of whatever happens,” an English translation of the post reads.
“Not only have you shown that by working, but also as a person,” it continues. “And today we want to recognize exactly that value in you. In a world where often what generates ‘AURA’ is indifference, you today, for today, prove that your AURA is to be a true HERO.”
According to Fox News, Cruz told Spanish media that he didn’t think before acting — that, as a father himself, he was driven by paternal instinct. Cruz also reportedly urged parents to keep a more watchful eye on their children.
Something similar happened weeks earlier in the Canadian suburb of Surrey, where a nonverbal autistic boy rushed into traffic in late July, nearly getting hit multiple times. He may have ended up dead had not a Good Samaritan named Moti Johal stopped his van to grab the boy.

“That’s me in the video,” Johal later wrote on social media. “As a father, my instincts just kicked in. I wasn’t thinking about myself or the danger—I just wanted to make sure that little boy was safe.”
“I’m not looking for any recognition or praise, just grateful he’s okay,” he added. “Please stay alert and watch for children around busy roads. Take care of each other. God is good.”

“God had me at the right place at the right time,” Johal said in separate remarks to City News. “I did not think anything. I just thought that the boy needed me. I am a new father as well. I just thought of the boy as my own son.”
He’s since been inundated with local awards.
