Top House Republican says winery owned by Omar’s hubby sold empty barrels to investors

A top House Republican said a winery owned by the husband of embattled Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) was shut down amid claims of fraud.

During a recent Fox News appearance, House Oversight Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said that the winery, which was co-owned by political consultant Tim Mynett, sold empty barrels to investors as “wine to be aged.”

While it’s not fresh news, the allegation has resurfaced as the Somali-born “Squad” member is being investigated by the Trump administration over potential fraud in how she obtained her U.S. citizenship and other matters.

“I can tell you from our initial investigation of Omar and her financial disclosure form that there are multiple fronts where you could get a search warrant issued,” the oversight boss told “Sunday Night in America” host Trey Gowdy.

“First of all, not only was there a huge discrepancy in the financial disclosure form, there was the winery that was the big base of her $25 million listing on her financial disclosure form. That winery has, according to the press, been shut down because of fraud,” Comer said.

The California-based eStCru winery shut down in April amid intense congressional scrutiny into the “Squad” member’s finances.

“Financial disclosure forms, filed by your wife Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, show eStCru LLC and Rose Lake Capital LLC, which you hold ownership stakes in, went from being worth as much as $51,000 in 2023 to as much as $30 million in 2024,” Comer wrote in a February letter to Mynett, referring to the winery and a venture capital firm that he co-founded in 2022.

“Given that these companies do not publicly list their investors or where their money comes from, this sudden jump in value raises concerns that unknown individuals may be investing to gain influence with your wife,” the letter read. “Media reports further suggest that you may have raised money from investors using misleading information, meaning some of those funds may have been obtained improperly.”

Mynett has denied any suggestions that he committed fraud.

“Any suggestion that Will or Tim deliberately defrauded investors or otherwise consciously conspired to rip people off would be false and defamatory,” he and his lawyers told the Minnesota Reformer, according to Fox News.

Last week, the couple’s Washington, D.C. home was raided by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents as part of an “ongoing federal criminal investigation,” a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed.

During his conversation with Gowdy, Comer pointed out that Omar is also “right in the middle of all of the Somali fraud with the earmarks that she proposed.”

“They were going to go to groups that were right in the thick of all the Somali fraud. All the Medicaid and welfare fraud… in Minneapolis,” the Oversight chief added, referring to the “industrial scale fraud” that took place among members of Minnesota’s Somali diaspora.

“She could be. She could also go to jail,” President Donald J. Trump said of Mynett’s better half when asked by a reporter if she could be deported on Tuesday in the Oval Office.

“They keep talking about deportation, no, she could go to jail,” the president added. “This is just my opinion — I think she’s a sick, very dishonest person who hates our country, and she comes from a country that essentially is not even a country.”
